Does The Blogging Platform REALLY Matter?

INTERNET MARKETING

I am by no means a blogging expert. I have used WordPress and Blogger
and that's it. I've used very little of the functionality each offers. Just what
I consider the "essentials".

While WordPress offers many more features than Blogger, I have had success
with both, monetarily speaking.

So I have to ask.

You see so many threads here, WordPress or Blogger...which is better?

Does it really matter?

Doesn't it come down to the content you put ON the blog?

Most of my quick affiliate review sites I put on Blogger because I don't
want to be bothered getting a domain and installing WordPress. You can't
use WordPress.com to promote anything, as some of you have already
figured out. So Blogger is a quick solution that has worked well for me.

If I'm going to put up a blog where I'm going to post a lot of content, then
I'll go with WordPress.

As I said, both work for me.

So again I ask...does it really matter? Are people over analyzing the
benefits of one blogging platform over another?

I'm curious to know what the blogging "experts" here think.

No..

They aren't.. wordpress REALLY is better for SEO (we are talking about hosted on WP of course?)

The self hosted WP is even stronger with the tweaks you can do...

I use blogger ALL the time, because you CAN overcome it's SEO flaws with hot content and some good back linking structure... but not everyone can do that. Also, WP hosted blogs are whakced all the time for affiliate promotion.

I don't think so but would have to agree with Jay that WP seems better for SEO.

I am in the middle of having my blog changed over to wordpress at the moment, i have used blogger for nearly a year now and have been able to make approx $1500 per month from it

A well done Blogger blog can work very well. Do a Google search for make money online. The top two spots I see are Blogger blogs!

Steve,

Both are good tools. Use the right tool for the job.

People haven't discovered the Search button here at the WF and so we keep seeing the same threads created over and over and over.

Sometimes people refuse to take action and instead just keep analyzing things to death.

In my experience, it's only the auto ping feature that makes WP better (default, out of the box installation). But if you add the plugins, then WP is way superior than any other blogging platform.

  My 2 cents on the subject is:
  
  If a person is not real tech savvy and has issues with FTP, Getting a website up etc....then I would say the platform does matter.
  
  Why?
  
  Wordpress frowns on monetization / affiliate links with the self hosted Free blogs whereas Blogger does not.
  
  At the end of the day, I have seen great results with both. I would also argue that if a Blogger Blog is done right and some tweaks are made with the coding....IE adding meta data.....Google loves them just the same.
  
  The only difference I have really found is that a WP blog tends to get indexed faster. But as Vince Pointed out....(and I have seen those sites) Blogger blogs are performing well in highly competitive niche markets.
  
  Bottom Line....if you can structure it right....get your SEO done right and onpage optimization either one works.

The platform HEAVILY matters. And it should be Wordpress. Period. Because it is the easiest to install, easiest the customize, easiest to get public support, easiest to add functionalty through plugins, more and more..

Wordpress allows for more functionality. I think it REALLY matters when it comes to what you are trying to achieve. If you are just using blog platforms to run campaigns on, I think either will suffice, but again Wordpress allows for you to do so much more without having to do so much more. What I mean by this is, you don't have to go out and do other things manually that you may have to do with blogger. Wordpress has so many automatic bookmarking plugins, twitter updating plugins, automatic pinging, and so forth. Not to say blogger doesn't have some functionality, I think Wordpress is still more versatile.

  The one thing I didn't notice mentioned here, which always seems to come up is the fact that with Blogger and WP.com you don't own the blog.
  
  I had some blogger sites when I first started, and I ran into having to prove that I had a legit site. It got old real fast, as they were all unique content, written by me or the boss (wife).
  
  I never had a site totally shut down, but I know that it was happening to others based upon what I read in the forums.
  
  If you have your blog setup on your own domain, you own it, and the only one who might try to shut you down is GoDaddy :rolleyes:
