HELP! Aweber, OptimizePress, Hostgator purchased and now ready to start my IM Career - Ex Newbie

Hello Guys and Gals,

Let me thank all those who have helped me graduate from LN (learner newbie) status to JPN (just passed newbie) status. The first year was the learning curve for me as I used to be a ex-procrastinating Secretary....at least I'm honest, right?.....lol. Obviously learning will be ongoing throughout my IM career.

I have now purchased the essential toolkit for serious IMers such as an aweber account, optimizepress, hostgator hosting and can buy domains when required. I know that the money is in the list so I need to focus, take action, optimize and build a strong relationship with that list by offering more value than merely pitching products.

In order to have success with building a long term business, I need your advice on what campaigns/sites/squeeze pages I should set up to easily meet the monthly out going costs for aweber and hosting? Any blueprints on what I should be offering/niches/types of free stuff I should be providing and how to generate the traffic after the Google updates.

      I'm a big fan of yours and read your replies on threads with interest. Normally you write a detailed answer as your a woman with so much knowledge to share.

      Niches would be the make money, raw foods, giving away free software. So really need advice on what works now and will work for the long term. I know that solving peoples' problems is the way forward. So I do have a plan but need your input.

        I can understand that you want the resources in place to go ahead but like Jill said with no clear idea of the niche you want to go into it's seems strange to go ahead and spend money on these without a clear plan.

        Make Money niche would be difficult for you having made no money....

        Raw foods, interesting do you have knowledge on this area, is there a hungry market that needs questions answering...

        Give away free software, what software for what purpose? lots of websites already doing this so you would have to drill down the niche to sub levels...

        Biggest tip would be to sit back from the techie side of it for a minute and figure out where you want your business to go... (the outcome)

        Think about your passions, interests and experiences...

        You mentioned you are a secretary could that be the start of your niche research... could you help others in that area or trying to get a job in that area?

          My research will be done within the next few days and also I'm going to study the answers from fellow warriors, then decide on the niche. So I can get moving on this fast.

          Btw I was a Secretary before I joined the WF. I was a walking Zombie clocking in and out, struck in a dead end job with a as*h*e of a boss like in the film 9 to 5 with Dolly. The last thing I wanna do is think about my previous job as a possible niche.

          So I have that passion/desire to succeed to show up my ex-boss and the non believers that a £18000 p.a ($27,900) secretary can change her destiny around. I'm not a greedy person and would be happy with making $2000 -$3000 per month online whilst having a quality work home balance.

          Getting the wordpress themes, hosting, AR service, etc is secondary (IMO) to deciding a specific niche first and how you are going to appease them.

          For example, are you sure Optimize Press is the best theme to be using if you do go into the raw foods niche? I would think having a look at other successful raw foods sites would have a say in what might be most useful.

          I'm not going to tell you that you can't go into the MMO niche, but I do discourage others against it who have not actually made their own money online yet. There are exceptions where it's OK - but most are not the exception.

          Did you get Aweber and Hostgator just because everyone else is doing it? Or did you sit down and pit services against each other and make those specific company choices based on long term business goals?

          I won't tell you to toss what you just purchased, but to make sure what you just purchased (and from who) is what you really need to best do what you have to for your niche.

          The first priority should be the niche itself. Your first priority should be to know them - like they are your own children - like you only want to give them the best, because they will be with you for a lifetime if you treat them right.

          Which of these niches you mentioned are you best prepared to accommodate?

          Think of it like you are going to an adoption facility for children (not babies) and each of these children has very special needs. There are going to be children that resonate with you and you know exactly how to help them. There are also going to be children who require so much attention that you have no idea where to begin.

          Unless you can afford to hire a nanny who can take care of what ever kid you take in, you're going to need to pick the child who you can best help. And as I mentioned in other ways above, each of the children has very different needs. One might need someone who knows how to help them with a respirator. One might need someone who knows about nutrition. One might just only need someone who can just take them in for a few years.

          If you know which child you are bringing home, then you will have a better idea of what you need to get exactly to take the best care of that child.

    Most of the stuff I know about e-mail marketing I learned from Charles Kirkland and Keith Dougherty webinars. Bought a few of their low price products too.

    A few days ago I found out about IContact autoresponder service. Deliverability rates are allegedly good and they offer a free plan for up to 100 subscribers (not sure now if it is for 30 days or longer).

    My first attempt in e-mail marketing was not successful because, I suppose I was not persistent enough.
    Kim Roach seems to have a good sources and knowledge. From her free report I learned a lot of new things, at least new for me.

    Actually,I did almost the same,I was in an affliate program which was based on FaceBook,I've decided to move on and I bouth hosting domain themes and some plugins. although I knew what I wanted to do,reviews products.

        Assuming you're using a optimizepress's squeeze page to capture leads and store in your aweber database, how do you intend to monetize? Send them an affiliate offer every day for as long as they stay subscribe?

          I appreciate your support Jeremiah. My aim is to capture the leads using aweber and optimizepress's squeeze page. Then I offer more valuable content and then pitch a related product but not email every day as people get fed up of emails. I will be very sensible as I personally have unsubscribed from 10 IM gurus for trying to sell me stuff everyday so I 'Fired' them......lol

          Thanks for Pat's blog which I read a few weeks ago and keep myself updated. Your right it is a goldmine especially the part about list building.

    hey Rossy , congratulations for your achievements . only the feeling you have about IM wirth all the lmoney you can make , because the vision and the confidence is all you need to make it online.

    about your questions just choose a niche that you can compete on it with other marketers , stay for way from the biggest niche in usa like weight loss or dating because it's war there and in this level you can't make it there . however you can choose sub niches in the biggest niches and still make it , but i advice you to choose a niche that you love .

    for driving traffic you dont have you care much about google , you can try many different platforms and still get a quality traffic like 7search.com of msn ad center or POF, just search for ppc platform and you''ll find enough.

    you can also try JV partners , it's someone that sends an email to his list promoting your products , you can also buy a solo ads,or you can do SEO if you are not hurry to see results .
    there are plenty of ways to make the complete combinations just take your time and pick the right way to take

    I would say though that it will be beneficial if you invested in amazon s3 too

    That way you can create your own video player when ever you make new videos and
    also if you need to host any files you can do that too

    If your going down the list building route then amazon s3 is vital because you will need it when you create products

    In terms of setting your whole system up, just make sure you have a good squeeze page live and you can drive traffic to it using a combination of some paid traffic and free traffic

    I also have an IM blog which in my opinion is very important for branding

    You can also use your blog to build your list even bigger and faster

    First, kudos to you for taking action! That's always the first step to success.

    Secondly, I am by no means an expert, but I'll still share my experiences with you...

    1. Best Niches - I recommend desperation niches (i.e. all health sub niches... like weight loss, acne, etc.). Or, I recommend that you go into a niche that you are very familiar with (it'll make it easier for you to create great content).

    2. What To Offer - You could offer a short quality PDF report that is very enticing (i.e. 7 Common Mistakes That Will Keep You Fat FOREVER). Also, you could offer access to a free membership site (this is something I just came across and will certainly be trying out)!

    For your autoresponder, you can send useful weekly articles, and promote your offers here and there. Bottom line, it should be like a 3 to 1 ratio with useful content and promotional emails. You could also very subtly promote offers within your content or at the end.

    3. Traffic - For me personally, article marketing still works just as long as your primary goal is for your content to be found in the search engines ON YOUR SITE, and the content on article directories to be syndicated by quality blogs and newsletters. You can also contact top blogs in the niche you decide to go with.

    4. Sites - I recommend that you have both a traditional squeeze page and a blog with a sign up form in either the header or sidebar (and preferably both spots). Oh, and definitely split test (different OptimizePress themes, different optin forms, color schemes, etc.) to see what gets you a better CTR.

    5. Where To Get Tips - Where I've learned the most from is the WarRoom (DEFINITELY!), Sean Mize (which you can find on EzineArticles), SocialTriggers.com, and of course... searching around the WF.

      You sound like where I was a few years back! Too much information and no idea what to do with it all!

      What I found to work best when building niche blogs, was to develop my own step by step list that I can always refer back to when needed.

      Mine basically goes like this:
      1. Find a niche that has a decent search volume and low to medium competition. Going after longer tail keywords within a broader niche or looking for sub-niches is where you'll have the most success. It helps if you're passionate about the subject matter as well.

      2. Buy a domain that incorporates your main keywords and install wordpress. Make sure to pick a theme that suits your niche. There are a lot of good free ones to choose from which you can find through a google search.

      3. Install your plugins, especially all in one seo and google sitemaps, and make sure you enter your main and related keywords in the appropriate areas, such as your site's title, description, and keyword fields.

      4. Add all the necessary pages such as, about me, privacy, contact as well as a few blog posts that are keyword optimized (don't overuse your main keyword). Don't forget to incorporate some relevant pics as well.

      5. Ping and social bookmark your blog as well as submit your sitemap to google. I would recommend creating a google webmaster account to do this.

      6. Once your blog is indexed, you can start to monetize it by adding affiliate links, google adsense, or a subscription box where you can offer a free report, etc. that's relevant to your niche.

      7. Keep adding new, keyword optimized content on a regular basis and build a large variety of high quality backlinks over time.

      This basically sums up my approach, of course there is a lot of other details you are going to want to add as you go, but it gives you a framework at least.

      With niche blogging, finding the right keywords is half the battle, the other half is making sure you have a sound SEO strategy in place.

    The most important thing is to select a low competition hot niche with lots of hungry buyers. Once you find the niche and the keywords, it's a piece of cake. I developed a solid system which will help you do just that... Watch the video below...

    Lots of great advice here, I would only add...

    1. When you select a niche, make sure you dig into the BIG questions and topics within that niche. You can find those by a) Mining discussion forums around the topic, look for the most common questions, threads that are most read and most active in terms of replies (this indicates interest, passion and engagement). Also - do a thorough look at what is already selling - specifically what treatments of the topic. For example, I look up raw foods on Amazon and see that the top 2-3 pages of popular sellers is around recipes and diets that incorporate raw foods, with a sprinkle of books that look at the common mistakes or health impacts of raw food diets. What you want to do is line up what you see in the forums in terms of questions and discussions with what you see selling and this will give you a very good indication of where the demand is.

    2. Start by putting together a give-away - so as you begin to get traffic you can build a list and begin to build loyalty with your market. If raw foods is your niche, then a booklet or video on typical raw food recipes, food choices or ways to avoid mistakes seems a good fit from my few minutes of research

    3. Start a blog - post daily on any aspect of your niche, these could be your own opinions, experiences, comments on a recent study, a tip, even guest posts - the idea is to build up your natural traffic and search engine positioning - you can pull people back into your squeeze pages from within these posts.

    4. In parallel you can begin to offer affiliate products (if you can find a good one) to your list and blog readers as well as begin to put together your own information product to get the ultimate leverage

    That will get you rolling...lots more you can do after that!

      3. Start a blog - post daily on any aspect of your niche, these could be your own opinions, experiences, comments on a recent study, a tip, even guest posts - the idea is to build up your natural traffic and search engine positioning - you can pull people back into your squeeze pages from within these posts.

      4. In parallel you can begin to offer affiliate products (if you can find a good one) to your list and blog readers as well as begin to put together your own information product to get the ultimate leverage

      That will get you rolling...lots more you can do after that!

    So you basically got yourself the tools... now you gotta learn how to actually become an IMer.

    There's no straight answer to that, you gotta start from scratch, step by step. For example: picking a niche of your interest, set up a squeeze page, start driving traffic to that squeeze page to build your mailing list, start mailing solutions (and paid offers) to your list, create your own products, network with affiliates, etc.

    Like I said, you just got yourself a car... now you gotta learn how to drive it. But no sorry, that's not something you will learn from a forum thread. It's a long process that will require lots of work and determination on your end.

    Let me just give you a quick assessment of your situation so that you can better understand what you need to do next:

    Here you go:
    1. Find a Profitable Niche (you skipped this one.)
    2. Set up a Blog/Website (you got the tools here -built it in relation to your niche)
    3. Create Squeeze Page/Sales Funnel (understand your target & get a nice free opt-in gift)
    4. Traffic Generation (unfortunately you need to spend some $$ for some quality traffic)
    5. Track Results (analyze your campaign -adjust 3 or 4 as necessary)

    HINT**: If something is working for you -keep doing it -just rinse & repeat!

    here's a quick check list and todo list for you to get started...

    1. create a blog.
    2. setup your list machine on your blog.
    3. post content daily on your blog that is valuable.
    4. submit articles to get incoming links and direct traffic from web 2.0 sites and article directories.
    5. create video squeeze pages.
    6. build relationship with your list.
    7. ask them their needs.
    8. create products based on their needs or find affiliate products based on their needs
    9. Mail them your offer.
    10. Participate in forums regularly with quality posts.
    11. Test every small thing and every traffic source.
    12. Test ROI based on individual traffic source.
    13. Start scaling up if your system is profitable.
    14. Start outsourcing.
    15. Re-invest your profits.

    This is what I do and it keeps working in every single niche...

    Rossy (it would be so much better if you had a real name), lots of people are in the position you are in: you've learned enough to know what to buy, but not quite enough to know how to fit it all together.

    You seem to have attached yourself to one particular way of making money online: the niche blog/squeeze page method. That is fine, and is quite capable of returning you an income, but be aware that there are lots of other ways to make an online living - any one of which may suit your personality better.

    I am not trying to deter you from your chosen course, just pointing out that it isn't the only route towards your eventual success. Internet marketing isn't one-size-fits-all. You can do exactly the same as someone else and get completely different results. It boils down to finding the right fit for you. Some of us (I count myself in this group) took a while to find out what we did best.

    Just get started and keep learning!

    If there are any real secrets to success I haven't yet found them, other than copious applications of common-sense. But there are some activities you can do that will bring success that much closer a good deal quicker. One of those is meeting and networking with other people. The ability to discuss your IM confusions face to face with people who really know what you are talking about is invaluable.

    I make a healthy full time income from Internet marketing but can honestly say that until I started mixing with other Internet marketers I was a keen hobbyist, at best. Spending a few hours in the company of likeminded souls - who more often than not can point you in the right direction - does a lot more than just add to your knowledge base. It also vastly increases your motivation to get on with things.

    You are lucky that you live in London because there are at least two regular networking events that you would definitely benefit from. One is run by Sarah Staar and is an evening thing. The other is run by me (the London Lunch) and is an all-day event with lunch.

    By mixing at such events with people of all kinds of experience - in the case of my one we get absolute beginners, right up to full-time Internet millionaires all rubbing shoulders on an equal footing - you are almost sure to get answers to your questions as well as answers to questions you'd never thought of!

    There is no such thing as push-button success, but there is fast-track success. That's the kind that comes from learning from others rather than trying to reinvent the wheel for yourself.

      Wow thanks Martin. Btw I've been to Sidcup in Kent and it's a lovely area. I also used to visit my Aunt in Orpington.

      I've noted your points and will check out the IM meet ups in London. I think hanging around like minded IM people is one of the secrets to success. We can learn so much from each other and it becomes easier to focus/take action.
