What Is A Magazine Theme Best Suited To?

Can someone explain how a Magazine style theme differs from a 'normal' Blog Theme, i.e. from a not Magazine Theme?

Is it just to do with more images per page, or are there other features that lend Magazine style themes to specific types of websites?

And are iFrame themes different (more specialized) in some way? If so, what types of websites are they best suited to?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Carol,

Magazine themes tend to allow a more magazine type layout, i.e. more articles / excerpts on a front page and less looking like a traditional wordpress blog.

They are pretty useful and are good for a lot of different applications. I use some magazine style themes on some of my sites because the layout suits the niche and what I am trying to do it.

    All the best

Its best used for multiple categories with lots of content. Sports, Entertainment, Gaming are just a few of the topics I can think would utilize magazine style themes. Online news as well.

I'm current using genesis theme too.. But not the magazine theme of course.

They are used for online news sites or as the name would suggest, online magazines where there are numerous categories and topics.

Lots of replies! Thanks guys - no gals yet.

I saw a website that was a single niche: how to blog etc, and he was using Aggregate Theme from Elegant Themes. It looked nice and clean but set out like a 'normal' blog with consecutive posts, but when I checked, Aggregate was a Magazine style theme.

That's what made me rethink what a Magazine could be used for.

Magazine themes are good for blogs that have very different categories. Where you want to see the different possible categories on the home page spread out in a more horizontal fashion.
