Struggling warrior in need of help...

Fellow warriors,
I have tried for sometime now to make money line. My efforts have included everything from podcasts to ebooks. All have failed. I truly just do not know what I'm doing wrong. I have not been able to find work in my rural area for sometime now and I really need something to pull through for my wife and 3 kids. I am not looking for a hand our, rather a hand up. I was wondering if there is a warrior out there that could mentor me and accept me as their apprentice. I have 12 years of experience the IT industry. I gave also a good deal if experience in writing. We are really against the wall here and I need to get my wife out of her job as it is causing her pain. Sorry for all the backstory, however I wanted to be transparent with you all. I'm willing to work hard, learn and follow orders. I just need someone to shoe me how to do this successfully. I just do not have the cash to invest in another failure. Any and all help is needed.

My thanks is more than I can express

Rob

      [QUOTE=JaRyCu;7216409]Rob, a few pointers:
      1. The site in your sig looks like it's been hacked.
      2. Don't advertise in a post like that that you have writing experience. When I saw that line, I immediately started reading your post from a writer's perspective, and it fails miserably.
      3. Spend the next few hours reading this: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...desperate.html
After you've done all that, come back and ask more questions.

Yes I had to let Jackofeverything go as we couldn't pay for the hosting. Like I said times
are going really tough for us. As far as writing goes I am writing on my android phone and that is sort of a pain with autocorrect. I appriciate your comments.

Sounds like you have bounced around a lot with what you have been working on. The best advice that I can give is to pick one thing and just keep working on that one thing.

I too used to focus on too many things. Now when I narrow my focus on one project, I am actually getting results where as before I was getting no where fast.

Sorry to hear about your predicament. But to be honest if you can't afford to pay for hosting then I suggest you quit trying to build a business online and get your offline issues into gear FIRST!

Hey don't worrie, the economy is tough, but there are a few things you need to dedicate yourself to do in order to succeed. You need to be consistent no matter what. If you are a go getter, you need to consistently interact with the social network on blogs, forums, youtube, and craigslist to get a steady flow to traffic to get up and running. I recommend two weeks at least to get the ball rolling. Email me if you want to talk to me personally on how I can give you a battle plan to get things rolling.

Are they not hiring for IT in your area? Almost all areas around the country is within a 30 mile radius. You should sell some of your stuff on Ebay. You should also consider selling services on Fiverr or as a freelancer. You will need your own website - whether you sell ebooks or affiliate products. It's essential.

Have tried Fiverr. Got some gigs in however the sales are quite slow. Sold some SEO articles but nothing big. If anyone has some Fiverr tips I would love to hear them!

OK, do you know what you have been doing right?
    What have you done?
What have you put 100% effort into?

Idea: Create a wso of 1000 things not to do.... give it away for free...
People want to know what not to do as well as what to do.

Now you have a list... or captive audience, if you will.
If you cannot think of anything to do with this list, then sell solo ads...

I think you may be over complicating this. It is not hard, but rather where persistance and dedication pay off. From what I've read, you have not solved any problems or offered a value.

I can tell you with 100% confidence that if you can solve a problem, you will make money.

Chin up Jack. Climb back in that saddle and tame the horse with kindness, showing it that you care more for it (customer) than you do for the money.

Try mentoring with Jie Lim (zerotohero...). Google him.
I worked with Jie some months ago and he is really good.
He is very pro and not expensive at all so far.
Unfortunately he had a personal problem and had to quit from IM, but recently I heard he's back again.
Don't give up man!! You'll do it one way or another.

This is some GREAT advise and I will definitely pursue this idea. If nothing else I know what not to do. I launched a WSO and got around 5 sales. I was floored...So far the only thing that I have done that had any sort of success was my niche podcast. I just couldn't figure out a way to monetize it. Working on Kindle books. So far I have 6 on the market. All with almost no sales as well. I know how to make content. Just no idea how on Earth to make money with it. I would say that is my big issue. I am plenty capable on the creative, technical ends. Just batting a big fat zero on marketing. Thoughts fellow warriors?

The fastest way to make money online is by taking on freelance projects. You get paid every month and over time you can build a portfolio and even subcontact some of the detail work out to others.

oDesk is one of my favourite freelance web sites.

Tough place to be Rob... I feel for you...
I am probably going to incur the wrath of a few people here but hoping to feed, cloth and house your family from IM earnings starting from zero is not a good idea.
You will probably end up on the street before you start earning enough online to cover expenses.

It would be far better if you had a job to keep you and your family going while you build your online business. Now i know that's easier said than done in this economy but it's the safer option.

    Cheers and Good Luck...

I would have to agree with the person poster who said don't rely on IM.
I also agree with the poster who mentioned Ebay, but disagree with the IT job thing.

lol sidenote. I had a friend who did IT networking she was one of the best in the country. I hadn't seen her in about 4 years online. So, when I bumped into her I asked her how was business going. She says oh I'm in bartender school. That's basically networking in a nutshell these days. Also, one of my mentors who trained me was at one time IBMs number one guy. He left IBM because the money wasn't good and it was a dying field.

Anyway, I also wouldn't pm anyone who spells worry worrie.
You pointed out that you were texting the message so I won't tell you to work on you grammar and spelling.

You do have an advantage though and that is your experience, working with computers, you could probably teach folks to do home networking, programming etc even take it offline. I know it may not be what you want at this moment, but you got to take the burden off your wife and also take care of your family. So, some sort of day gig or local business or something related to your 12 year field is where I would go if I were you.

Boy I can totally feel where your friend is coming from. I have an amazing resume as I have worked with some of the biggest IT companies in the US. However since the last company I worked for layed off my group I have not been able to find a job anywhere. Now as time goes by the jobs that are out there see my experience now as "dated." I turn to my local area and they just do not care that I have IT experience in this rural area. It simply has no value to them. The jobs in the area are mostly retail and resturant in nature. They all tell me I am "over qualified." You really end up in a pickle. I did try your suggestion of trying to teach. I offered a class in both cooking (was a chef for 10 years prior to my IT days) as well as a Internet business class. No interest there either. However like I stated before though I think my real issue is figuring out how to market. Content isn't an issue just finding a way to get it in front of people seems to elude me. Thanks so much for the comment. These are so very valuable.

    Rob,

If you need to get money coming in then get on to IWriter and Textbroker, create accounts and get writing. If you aren't working then there is no reason you can't earn $50 to $100 a day between the two sites and they pay out weekly.

I'd personally make your first priority sorting yourselves out financially and securing yourselves before you go running off after Internet marketing again. I'd also say keep well away from the WSO section and don't buy any IM products, you don't need them.

Concentrate on the writing to bring in an income to support your family - your number 1 priority is food on the table for the kids and a roof over the head.

Then spend your spare time reading the forums here and getting to grips with Internet Marketing.

Create an action plan based on what you find and decide on ONE course of action, e.g. amazon / affiliate marketing / CPA or whatever, just decide ONE way forwards and base your plan around this.

Then take consistent action towards this goal every single day. AVOID the WSO forum and buying products and just focus on your action plan.

Give it a couple of months and you'll be bringing in some money. To be completely honest with you, I struggled for years making money online and never really cracked it until I left the WarriorForum for six months, unsubscribed from every IM list and just focused on getting stuff done ... it was quite amazing how quickly things turned around!

Good luck with it, but get writing on those sites and get the income coming in - looking after your family is the number 1 priority!

Drop me a line if you have any questions or if I can do anything to help.

Checking into these links. I can not agree with you more though. I would read this WSO and that one. It really isn't very much help. You run to this strategy and drop everything to this other. I think you have it right there. I am trying to concentrate now on my writing on Kindle. I figured if nothing else I could sharpen my writing skills and have that as an asset. I have done plenty of technical writing during my career. I wrote a book on a complete system for new marketers. However so far if has gone no where. Keep the suggestions coming. I have no idea why I didn't think to reach out to the community sooner. So many great things you all are saying. My gratitude just can't be expressed.

I have thought of that. It came to mind after I started the gigs in Fiverr. It does seem that there is a need for writers. That is why I decided to start sharpening my skills in that area. Thanks for the tip. Keep up the suggestions everyone. This is as valuable as gold to me. Thanks so very much!

Have you thought of offering your services locally? I live in a rural area. The disadvantage is that there is a smaller customer basis. The big advantage is that people know you. Offer your services as a computer troubleshooter for home and small business customers. People have endless problems with computers - printer won't print, broadband won't connect, computer runs slowly, and so on. Just this morning I set up someone's brand new, shiny Mac (I'm jealous).

I started out teaching IT. That led to the troubleshooting, which in turn led to websites and online. Go for it - you have a huge advantage if you live in a rural area. I'll bet you wont' have much competition.
