How to gain maximum from an old domain name?

I recently acquired an old domain name (12+ years old).

I am going to put it as an addon on the same host i am currently using.

I am going to put content on it and add a link to my main website(7 years old).

What are some of the things i should and i should not do when using this domain.

    I have done a similar thing as well. I have about 3 domain names attached to my website and every time I have new domain attachment, I believe that I have to start from scratch to get the domain name noticed on google. Just as you said you need content for that domain I put in a few new pages and quality content or sometimes I switched some keywords around to blend the domain name around for the website. You just need to be creative to make sure your content will become unique to your new domain. I heard that if you already have an established website, you can get the domain name noticed twice as fast compared to having a new website.

    Content is not an issue. I am not just going to redirect it or keep a landing page. I will make a full site of it with content.

    But should i keep it on same host and link it to my other site?
