question on copy/paste

Good Morning:

I write a blog and use news items in it. I always copy/paste and provide a link to the original article. I always include the author and date and use italics for the text.

question: Do I really need to use quotation marks also? And with a link do I really need to include the author and date?

thanks

jim

I do thank you very much for writing. I was given to understand that if I made obvious the author and put the link at the bottom of the quote that it was ok.

If i am wrong in that I certainly did not intend to.

I was giving full credit. Wow. I better go back and check.

      thanks

That is what a lot of people seem to think. It is not true at all. Anyone who writes anything has an automatic copyright on it, and sometimes a full and formal copyright as well.

Attributing the article to the source can backfire. It has been used in a couple of cases to prove that the person copied the work.

Don't use anything from another site unless there is explicit permission to do that.

Some content owners are enthusiastic about lawsuits. Getty images is the most famous for this. They once collected over $4000 from a site that copied one of their $10 images.

I always give credit to authors when I copy/paste and I even link to their website if need be. However I make the link a nofollow for the autho
