Why Doesn't Flippa Moderate Potential Scammers?

I am by no means an expert, but everyday I check Flippa for potential deals and everyday I find multiple sites with unsubstantiated claims of income, rankings, etc. People are uneducated enough to throw their money at these sites even though it is an obvious scam or even a duplicate of a previous site the buyer had already sold.

I found this site for sale and the claims are so over the top that it can't be true.

If someone claims to be selling a site that has made 95k in 3 months, then why the heck would they sell it for 7k? ANSWER: It's a scam!

Because it's really just a marketplace... buyer beware.

You are making some serious assumptions.
There could be many reasons why people sell their sites, one being, wanting to move to better ventures and not having enough time to maintain it.

Flippa, the WSO section, Fiverr, Wal-Mart...

They can only do so much.

They do their best to avoid scammy, crappy products but it's not their primary function.

Buyers need to use a little common sense and discretion before they buy.

Actually it sold for $10,200 on Flippa and the buyer will get him money back when hell freezes over. This is an out rage. FTC should come down hard on scammers.

    • I've seen some highly suspicious activity there. Can I prove anything, of course not. Can I strongly suspect something, yes I can.

A lot of times I think they buy the site from themselves ( and pay the fees ) so they can then turn around and sell the site down the road and show how much they paid as an indication of value. Pump the value, and then dump...

About a year ago I spent half an hour each day for a week reporting listings that violated the rules or were just a straight out scam, flippa ended up giving me a $50 voucher as a thank you.

I also accidentally caused a lawsuit (that was later dropped) on flippa
But that's a whole other story

Hi Vanilla Gorilla -- Ophelie from Flippa here.

As is pointed out above, we're a marketplace, not a brokerage firm, so while we watch the marketplace for listings that don't follow our Site Rules, we don't verify each listing that goes up. We do take down fraudulent listings as soon as we notice them or when they are reported to us.

We have outlined some of the safety measures we've build at flippa.com/safety, in our Buyer's Guide at flippa.com/guides, and regularly talk about finding great listings on our blog (flippa.com/blog).

The best way to find good listings is to use our advanced search and save your preferred searches. That way, you can ignore sites that don't match your criteria and focus on sites that will interest you.
