Clickbank Link Failure

I have a few videos up on youtube promoting a product & they have been generating about $800/ month in commissions until the beginning of last month when it suddenly went to $0. at the beginning of the next month I generated a new affiliate link and immediately started making sales again. The link is forwarded from a dedicated domain. anyone had anything like this happen? any suggestions for avoiding this type of problem? I had noticed that my ID was showing up on the order form but still no sales, curious...

    Very interesting.

As I do very little in the way of affiliate marketing, I cannot shed too much light on the matter. However, there certainly are other threads on here somewhere that discuss similar things i.e. affiliate commissions suddenly stopping and then starting again after a new (if my memory serves me well) account is created. In your case, you say, after a new 'link' rather than account.

It will be interesting to hear what other Warirors say.

    Yes.

At least hundreds of people (and I suspect more), since at least 2007/8.

This is a very well-known situation with ClickBank. There's a huge number of threads here (though many more from 2008/9/10 than from 2011/12) in which people report the same as you, including the fact that their sales were suddenly and dramatically restored to their earlier level as soon as they substituted a new affiliate-link.

I myself have had former clients in this position. One was averaging 12 sales per day, which suddenly dropped to 0 for no apparent reason. He opened a new affiliate account, created new hoplinks and was immediately making 12/13 sales per day again.

There are, of course, far too many of these stories for them all to be confabulated, or for them to be "coincidences" or "fluctuations" as some people purport to believe.

The reality is that ClickBank occasionally has undiagnosed and unacknowledged affiliate-cookie tracking failures which (for whatever hard-to-understand reason) can clearly be remedied in this way. On one occasion that I remember, they even admitted (which doesn't come easily to them) that there'd been a temporary problem.

For what it's worth, I think it's a lot less common now than it was 3/4 years ago.

thanks for the feedback Alexa, just wondering if there might be any connection to where the affiliate link exists. In my case the link is on a NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO- domain set up for forwarding as opposed to a sitting on a wordpress site & via prettylink etc. The link is not masked just forwarded. (nice mondrian series by the way, impressive)

Just thought I would post this bit from Clickbanks site regarding invalid links for what its worth:

      "Invalid HopLinks
To ensure proper tracking of your HopLink referrals, your HopLink needs to open into the top level of a new or existing window. For most affiliates, this is not a problem. However, some affiliates attempt to hide their HopLinks by having them open into other types of sub-window objects, such as frames, iframes, layers, applets, or images. These types of HopLinks are considered invalid, and can result in lost affiliate referral credit, incorrect display of your website, or, in the case of abuse of the HopLink system, could result in account termination without notice.

If you're a beginner affiliate and don't understand the terminology above, don't worry. The default methods of creating HopLinks listed above will always generate valid HopLinks."
