Default What is the Best Position on the Page to Insert my Optin Form

At present I have a page of content with 2 affiliate links. One aff link is above the fold and the other at the bottom of the article.

I was wondering where the best place is to include an optin form. I was thinking of just having one form at the bottom and removing both affiliate links but this does not seem a good idea as there is no way for me to monitize or collect an optin above the fold. Maybe an optin in the sidebar at the top or even another optin above the fold within the content also.

Anyone got any advice?
Maybe this is just one of those things I should be testing for myself to see what works best but I thought someone else may have experience of this.

Thanks Chett

Is it a wordpress site ? if it is, then better to you use some pop up optin. It really is working.

Hi, yes it's a wordpress site. A pop-up could be a good idea - will a pop-up work better than having an optin form on the page itself or would you have both.

Top of the right sidebar and just beneath the article are the most common places I see them.

Use popups sparingly as they tend to really annoy visitors. I use them on some sites, but not others.

If you want something to follow people down the page, you can use a slideup. These are also pretty common and is less intrusive.

I agree with that! The pop up optin is considered quite annoying for the visitors. I am not convinced about its performance.

What worked for me best is ABOVE THE FOLD

if it's wordpress, then it should be a bix box above the "main content" and above the sidebar. Here is an example : frankkern . com
(example may change)

This works very well.

(I think it's the best solution if you don't want to use pop-ups)

SocialTriggers.com did a test and concluded that having an optin box right below the header on the left hand side significantly increased optin rates. I'm currently experimenting with this on one of my sites to see what happens. But first things first, I need to get more traffic to the site... lol!

Forget the sidebar. Best place is top of the article on left or right side, or with a pop-up. Depends on your audience and site of course. What I usually do is one of 2 strategies:

1) Top of article under header on left or right side
2) Pop-up as well as form at the bottom of articles

I don't use them any longer (because of the UK cookie Law). When I did, I had a cookie set so they only ever popped up once for the entire life of the cookie.

But, as to whether or not they work, the answer is very clear. A good quality lightbox popup with great graphics will literally explode your optins.

I like to have one at the bottom of the, and on the same squeeze page, have a hover ad come onto the page and darken everything except for the ad, and get them to enter their name and email address there. Works great with a free offer, and a great headline.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will test between

1. Having a pop-up (I think I have a light box type one I got from some where I will use) and having an optin at the bottom of the page.
2. Having an optin at the top of the page under the header.

It's always good, in principle, to test things in your own business and with your own traffic, but for myself pop-ups are one thing I'm not even willing to test, for all the reasons explained/discussed in such detail in this and many other threads: What's your philosophy on popups & popovers?

Lexy ... paints stuff that snips, crimples and pips, and calls it postmondrianism.
