Is this a coincidence?

I have a question for all you 'gurus' or just anyone paying attention to rankings lately....

I lost all of my keyword rankings as of Sept 28th -- went from having about 600 keywords on the first page of google to having about 4 for my main business....

I have been trying to tweak things little by little to try to get some of my rankings back

Now, mind you, I run an eCommerce store. None of the small blog-type things to try to make a quick buck. `I've been building a truly stable business for the last two years. Well, at least trying to build a stable income.

August and September were my best months in that time, watching other sites fall to penguin this, and panda that, but my sites never dipped only rose.

I got smacked hard on the 28th of Sept, only having maybe 4 keywords left that could be found on in the first page of results from Google.

I did one thing and one thing only yesterday....My keywords came back in force...

My question is -- Did I hit an update that may have brought me back, or was it that one thing.... I hate to say the one thing or the site in case it was the fluke (went from 350+ a day to less than 50 on the 28th, now back to 160+)

Was there an update, or did I discover a holy grail?

I haven't lately. my website is running fine, but have you been using any type of automated software that may have been used to direct social traffic or anything like that for your site. Some softwares can randomly screw up your ranking.

Sept of '10 I bought a few fiverr gigs to try to get my site on the map. Then came all the penguin/panda stuff so I did no more backlinking because I was afraid to screw up my only money site....Won't even bother with the disavow tool, because I never wanted to pay for finding out:
      A- who was linking
      B-quality of links

Just simply made the typical twitter/facebook accounts to push my brand

I am not a guru just someone that 'pays attention to rankings lately.'

I did not see any big changes on my websites on September 28th or yesterday.

Could be just a google dance. I doubt if there is one thing you could do to get 110 or so keywords back to page 1.

I don't see how it would be a month long google-dance, but then again I have no clue what I've been doing. Found this site trying to get my business found in google. And I appreciate everything I've learned here. Just trying to figure out how my rankings are coming back, and if it was a total fluke or an update of some sort

Out of 5 sites, 3 sites were totally lost into nowhere while 2 others were not affected. I gone tired of making adjustments so I decided to leave them as is.... For the meantime, I focus more on quality content without backlinking and my new site is doing good.

That is the one problem I have been running into with my site. Ecommerce: everything filled in by a feed from my suppliers. I could manage to spin it, but something drastic changed on sept 28th, now slowly coming back without a complete overhaul of any sorts.... Just looking to see if anyone else is having a similar situation. If I searched for my main keyword a week ago, had the same site with different pages as 5 of the top ten, I was no where in top 100. Now I am again

Dude No offense but Google will never ever ever give an update that will rise anyone's keyword on the top. so that's not possible

Not true.... When everyone else got smacked, my rankings rose without any effort on my part. So, while I agree I didn't get 'raised' - everyone else got lowered.... same results (welp, at least til sept)

Website ranking is a fickle thing. It always seems to change. I'll keep the advice above in mind though.
