Hi - I'm in need of some advice on how to get testimonials for a product I have just created.

Idea: I am thinking of putting the product out as a free offer at my 'opt-in' box (to my list) on blog. Then, if people on my list enjoy the product or get good results I can email some of them personally, or from FB and ask politely for a testimonial.

The only snag is the product has gone out free to my list for a few months...but the plus is I may be able to get a tonne of good reviews. I am weighing up the benefits to short term loss to long term gain: even if I lose a few sales short term when I go to market with a price tag on it, with so many excellent testimonials from REAL folk who i truly care about, I should gain over the long term as new folk join the list over time...this is an evergreen product.

I did a mini free product once and it was for free at opt in and people fell over backwards when I asked them for a testimonial...so I know it works.

Do you know of any better strategy than above that might work to get real testimonials?? NO I AM NOT into paying people on Fivrr to do it. My niche are full of savvy educated people who can sniff a rat from a mile off...plus putting reputation at stake is a no no for me.

Any ideas or comments on where I could do better?

Thanks!

This is cheating the system, but if you go on fiverr.com there are people you can hire for $5 to do a video or text or audio testimony on your product.

      Don't do this.

Not only is it not ethical it's also illegal to mislead people with false testimonials.

well I can't cheat the system. It could take ONE person to ruin my growing reputation and I'm done.

I think I will stick to my strategy cos I can get some useful feedback which can be tweaked to make the product even better putting it out for sale. At least the testimonials will be real. I guess I answered my own question. Thanks for now.

I agree - falsifying someone's words to better your business is highly illegal and unethical in my opinion.

Just get it the real way, ask your clients.

Definitely don't go to fiverr. People will find out and trust will be lost. Once trust has been broken it is very hard to regain.

These types of gigs are getting very popular on fiverr. People are offering to do video testimonials for anything.

You kind of wonder how it's going to look when you go to somewhere like Youtube and see the same people pitching a dozen or so different products .... very suspect

Don't forget to ask for testimonials right in the product itself.

Something to the effect of "Now that you have finished [product name], why not take a moment now to let other people know what you like about it. Send your comments to feedback@______"

Don't refer to them as testimonials, as that will turn some people off.

    All the best,
    Michael
