I'm in the process of creating my first web page and I found a free domain for it. The domain consist of one word that gets 10k Local Monthly Searches and has Low Competition.

I am quite new to IM so I would like your opinion if buying this domain name would be a good idea. Also, would it be easy for this site to appear on first page on google?

I'm a little confused . . . you say you found a "free" domain and they you ask if it's worth buying?

No one can answer your question about getting to the top of Google as "it all depends" on a number of factors.

If you think the domain is good and you're buying it for less than $10 then go for it as there's not a lot of risk.

If the domain is a real word found in the dictionary (highly unlikely) then you should buy it. If it's a "made up" word then you should be very careful as it will require a lot to brand it.

Be sure the word is not trademarked by someone else as you would be setting yourself up for some potential litigation.

Typical "one word" domains go for big money. Unless we're talking about a 15+ character domain name, then you can expect to spend some money on it.

I've never paid for premium domains... The way I see it, is that my online business/venture/ what have you, should be dictated by what domain name is available. Whereas if I was running an Offline business and I wanted to move it online, I would need that exact domain to match my business, as such, I would pay good money in that case.

If this is your first domain, first website, and first online venture, I would recommend against dropping 4 figures or more on a domain. There are another 5000 parts of your website that all have an impact on how successful you will be. Yes, a good domain name is an excellent start, but if it economically puts you in the whole for your first year or two, is it really worth it?

Sorry, what I meant was that no one has registered it yet. So it would only cost me 10$ or so.

I live in a country with a population of less than 2 million and the name of website would not end with .com but my country's code.

What is the difference between broad and exact search?

That's good if you want to market/promote your site only to residents of your country who search on a geospecific version of Google, but it's not so good if you want to rank as well as you can on google.com. For that, you might want a top-level domain (or .co/.me/.tv, which count the same as TLD's for rankings).

If you're looking at peppermint twirls, when you search for "peppermint twirls", between inverted commas, the results show you pages with those two words together in the two-word expression. If you look without the inverted commas, the results show you all the pages on which both of those words appear, in any positions and in either order. When you're looking at the "exact" searches, those are the people who typed in the specific expression, rather than just some collection of words which happened to include both those words.

The one thing I learned about this business and being on the hamster wheel is that if you don't do anything, then nothing changes.

And also, a bunch of analysis. If it feels good in your gut, then you should go for it. But since you're new I understand your trepidation.

Having said that, when you see something you want go for it. Not just in IM but life in general. I had to learn that the hard way.

          Hope that helps.
