Conversion Tips Wanted

Hi all, I thought this is a good place to get some advice as there seems so many seasoned pro's in here.

I am working on a website at powderwhite with a .com selling holiday accommodation which gets on average 1000 visits a day in peak season and I am looking for any advice on how to increase conversions.

There are 2 areas I am looking at

1) I have goals set up in google analytics and can see many people start the shopping process but there is a really high abandonment rate. Recently I added secure logos and a few links to terms etc and added some advice on what to do. Is there anything else I could do?

2) I want more people to buy, how could I get more people to make an enquiry or buy the product. Our main product are chalet so have a look at that section and property pages which is the pre-sale step.

Thanks and I look forward to your wise advice.

I would collect these visitors names and emails and follow up with them about anything interesting related to your topic. Once you have them on your newsletter, you can pretty much sell them anything related to your niche.

    That's a problem right there.

If your main offer are chalet, then don't make it a side-section on your site. Make it the main featured thing on your index, with large photo, the 3 or 4 key characteristics of that main offer, and a clear call to action. Don't force users to navigate to "that section", instead display it right away in front of their eyes.

There is a really good company/software out there that can help you with this.
It is called seewhy (google them).

I researched cart abandonment for one of my sites once and found some crazy stats like on average 8 out of 10 who start the shopping cart process will make it to the final step and then abandon with the majority never to return!

If you can catch/convert some of them it can make a BIG difference to any business.

      Good Luck

  • Skiing,

The conversion process can be tricky. You are also selling a service that may have a longer sales cycle than most products that people purchase online. I would suggest looking into the sales cycle of your visitors. Are they in an information search phase when they arrive at your site or are they in a buying phase? If most of them are in an information search phase, you may want to tweak things so that you are collecting their information as a lead rather than trying to convert them online. Then you could follow up later and close sales.

If they are more often in a buying phase and they are abandoning your sales funnel because it is too ambiguous or too long, you could set up variations of landing page and to some A/B or multivariate testing. In general, users on the internet are in a virtual world and if there is ambiguity in where they are or if they have found the right place, they may abandon a sales funnel. If your process is too cumbersome, this is another problem.

    1. you need to know the buying cycle, before they buy you need to educate them , I mean they really want enough information before making purchases, so they'll you to be an expert in the field
    2. I assume you've put enough banners there, so why don't you add some pop up to promote a specific page that's talking (how the experts talk about their expertise) related to your niche. Then in the content you'll embed your affiliate link there. I think most of the time, link in the content will be the best in conversion.

You should get one of those "Comodo" SSL scripts installed on every page of your site. People can roll their mouse over it, and see some reputable details of your company there. Will definitely increase response.
