Quotes or No Quotes for Keyword competition?

INTERNET MARKETING

Should you use quotes to determine keyword competition? Some keyword phrases I look at in quotes only have about 10,000-20,000 competition then when you remove the quotes they have 4-5 million? If I want to target a phrase that would be realistic to get on google 1st page how do I determine what competition to go after?

Ant help would be greatly appreciated

  **** only shows a difficulty of 57. How accurate can that tool be?

  I checked a few of mine, which ranged from 27 to 69. So I would think 57 is still pretty difficult.

I use in quotes

If there are three or more words in the phrase then you will get lots of irrelevant results with just 2 of the 3 words coming up.

There is more to it than that but think less then 20,000 in quotes and that will give you a good start

Yeah, it only makes sense to evaluate your competition using the same search queries your potential users might be using. My intuitive sense is that you want access to the most accurate information about the playing field that you're actually competing in.
