Niche marketing gurus....your tips are needed please

I'm working on my next project, and have come to the conclusion that drilling down into a niche is sometimes a very painful process. If you are in a huge niche, you obviously don't want to target everyone because most likely you will not reach anyone. And it's hard to drill so far down you feel like you are leaving too many people out.

Finding that sweet spot is the key to niche targeting, and sometimes it can just be mentally draining trying to figure out exactly who your target audience should be and what limitations you should put on your marketing efforts.

Any niche gurus out there have any monumental tips to finding that sweet spot?

    All I can say is that I have had great success on my website because I am just my plain old self and people respect me for that and I have had a ton of success because they know that I can work with them and teach them instead of having to go to a big corporate site to get a products.

    Here is a very simple process I tell my students to use to find a niche, without getting their brains numb over it:

    1. Find a non-fiction book that targets your market.
    2. Open up the Content page and read the chapter titles. 80% of the chapter titles are often niches and sub-niches.
    3. Once you identify several niches, do your research to see if the niche can be monetized.
