What is your openrate?

I am wondering what the percentage of opens is for all of you and what is considered normal.

Please share.
Mine is around 30%. Do you think this is low, high or normal? What is yours?

It depends on the type of emails. Is your 30% for promotion or for content?

Mine is around 40-50% for content (free stuff, product updates, etc.) and around 20-25% for promotion.

I've heard that a good open rate is 8% and up. Mine runs 30-59% (depends on the topic) with one spam complaint and 2 bounces in a year...but I've built the majority of my list from real-world contact, so my people actually know me.

I think 30% is amazing! The question is whether the list is responsive though...open rates are good, CTR are better, and sales are the best!

This is kind of a silly question

A person could have 1 person their list and if that person opens you have a 100% open rate

Then you could have 100 people on your list and only 1 person opens for a 1% open rate.

There are so many variables that come into play

    --numbers on list
    --type of promotion
    --copy
    --market
    --weather
    --mistakes

I am talking on average. Indeed if the list is 1 person big, the openrate would be 0% or 100%. Lets say this topic is for 1k and up on the list.

Let's also say that the "only info mails" are around 70% of the time and promotional is 30%.

I am not talking about CTR since this differs if it is for instance a info video to help people or it is a promotional offer.

Open rate figures are wildly inaccurate and also not
the most important metric to be focusing on in your
        business.

I much prefer to be focusing on the sales that e-mails
generate rather than majoring in minor figures like open
        rates, etc.

I only look at open rates for my own lists to benchmark
the performance of each list on a list-by-list basis.

However, if you really want to practice some e-mail
open rate masturbation, then here's some research
on e-mail open rate figures by MailChimp:

        Research | MailChimp (no affil.)

And AWeber show that open rates vary by list size:

It's not relevant for the fact lists are composed differently.

You could start with an open rate of 15% and turn that into an open rate of 95% simply by ridding of dead weight. i.e the people who don't open your emails.

Your question makes the assumption that everyone is carrying the dead weight.

The best open rates for me are with short subject lines and or subjects that can CREATE a sense of CURIOSITY.

Easier said than done but works well.
