Affiliate marketing start at hubpages. Pretty difficult.

Hi, all!
Recently I decided to give a try at affiliate marketing using amazon associates with hubpages. I don't have sales so I'm looking for advice. My hubs are: Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge expansion
Gangnam Style parodies collection
(no Spam - just asking for positive advice). So my question is simple - what should I do in order to get sales? Should I link-build, post articles somewhere else and etc? I'm sure that my first 2 hubs are having mistakes in terms of amazon affiliate tactics and I want to fix them. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would run away from hubpages if I was you they are not very affiliate friendly.

I would use them sparingly. Why don't you start your own blog or website and post your content to something you control?

    Build your business not hubpages!

This is some advice I hope you take.

I do not entirely agree - though I do prefer my own sites
but it does not mater where your promotion is
      assuming it is convincing
it all comes down to Traffic
      targeted eyeballs

Even If you have the best widget at the best price
It is worthless if nobody can find it

If hubpages changes their rules, and starts deleting posts, I just hope you don't have a lot of them to modify. :p

        Don't say I didn't warn ya!

Rule changing is just part of the internet
          even with my own sites
Google changes the rules and result can change or disappear
we are living in the now
It would be great if we could just do something once and it would work forever
but the reality is some things work some things don't
some work for a while and some last a lot longer

Nooooooo, you're really missing the point, here. Either that, or you're trying to fool yourself about this.

The point is that anything you can do at HubPages, you can do instead and to better effect (and also without spending a penny, if that's how you want to do it!) on pages which you yourself own and control, where you get to make up the rules. And one way is a lot better and safer than the other. It's about as simple as that.

If you try to sweep that aside on the grounds that "Rule changing is just part of the internet", you'll be the only person fooled by it, and the only person whose business will suffer as a direct result.

This thread from the weekend will help you a lot, if you're willing to read it slowly and carefully enough: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...en-locked.html (it's about Squidoo rather than HubPages, but what it says applies to HubPages even more than it does to Squidoo!).

How can I set up my own domain and hosting without spending a penny?

It'll be a free subdomain (just like HubPages would give you), not a free domain. Unless you want a .tk domain (you can actually get those free, but I wouldn't recommend it at all).

Or - much better - you can buy a .info domain (top level domain) for about $3.

Not necessarily. Even if Google changes the rules and you lose your organic traffic, that is just ONE form of traffic you are losing. There are 100s of other free as well as paid ways to get traffic to your site, so Google ranking is not the only source of traffic. So, even if you lose your rankings, you still have your site, and you can still bring traffic to it from elsewhere. That goes for policy changes happening in any other traffic source (like Twitter, Facebook etc) No one can delete your site, because you own it, along with all the content on it.

You can't say the same for sites like hubpages and squidoo though. They can delete your hubs, along with content God knows how many hours you spent writing, and you'll be left with nothing to show for your hard work. Living in the now is fine, but not thinking about the future at all is not good for any business. Just my 2 cents.

Hubpages hates affiliate marketers... so I would steer clear of them.

It's borderline useful as a place to post cheap (I'm taking $5/500 words) articles and then embed your YouTube content, occasional Amazon links, and links to your own site for some referral traffic (the SEO value of these links is ZERO, however)

However, if you don't have the budget for this, then steer clear!

In my opinion, you should use your own sites for these so that you have full control over them. However, the next best option would be blogger blogs. Believe it or not, for low competition keywords, it is not uncommon to see blogger blogs ranking in google. It also doesn't hurt that google owns blogger blogs.

For these niches you have targeted, I would suggest heavy youtube promotions. Make videos on your topics and optimize them to rank in the search engines. It is important that your keyword selections are not highly competitive for fast rankings. Put links to your blogger blogs in the description of your videos. There are several guides and courses on this forum on how to optimise and rank your videos.

Start your own site/blog. You won't have to split any Adsense revenue with Hubpages. Plus you get to own the landscape... so you make your own rules about what kind of content you want to put on your site.

The only possibility I see with using hubpages for promoting an affiliate product is through videos. If you add any link to a website not to talk of affiliate link, your hub will be flagged down.

My best bet is to get a website of your own, with just $20 you can have a domain name and hosting up. There are plenty of free themes you can start with.

In terms of promoting amazon products, I found SEO, blogging, social networking and videos to most effective.

If you'd read my previous post, then you'd know how I feel about posting your content on third party sites like hub pages. Instead of building links or bringing traffic to your hub, why don't you do the same for your own site. I know owning a site is not free, but if you look at the actual cost, it comes to less than $10 a month, and that's nothing in most of the countries. So, my advice is, buy a domain (if you don't want to buy a .com, you can go for a .info too, it only costs $2.99 or so), and get hosting from a good host like Hostgator (they offer 1 cent hosting for the first month, so you'd be good for a month).

I noticed that you have your hub link on your signature. Once you create your site, you can change that to your website's link. Join a couple more forums, and start posting useful info with your website link in your signature. You won't get hordes of traffic out of it, but it'd be a good start. In the mean time, you can build quality links to your sites so you can eventually get organic traffic to your site.

Build a fan page for your site too and post updates for every post you make and share useful information. Share your page with your friends, and if you keep you keep providing value to your page, you'll see an increase in your number of fans, and hence an increase in the traffic to your site.

Also, convert your articles to videos and post it in Youtube too. Videos help in both backlinks and direct traffic.

I know it seems like a lot of work, but with your own site, you're building a solid business that can be sustained for years to come, so the hours of work will definitely be worth it in this case.

    Good luck!
