Coming back to the IM game

Hello all!

I did IM when I was a younger through my college years, but stopped after going into the retail/distribution business. This kept me busy for a while, and now that i am pretty set, I wanted to get back to the game.

Just wanted to know how has the web atmosphere changed since the early 2000s, for WSOS, niche sites, adsense revenue, ebay, dropshipping etc...

Does finding some good keywords, throwing a clone up, optimizing it still work to get traffic and adsense revenue? or is it more involved now. Does exact keyword domain's still hold any weight?

Also any recommendations for getting some SEO work done, either individual or company, just need some good results.

Thanks and looks forward to hearing from you guys.

Try paid advertising also, don't depend on just SEO, that will bring you quicker profits than just sitting around and wait for visitors to find you on search engines.

There are a lot of changed in IM world currently...especially in SEO since Google released many changes and updates to their search results.

Some EMD domain today doesn't have more weight in Google...it's because many of my micro niche sites that use EMD has fallen down.

Would EMD, still work for low competition keywords in like countries where the internet access is just getting there?

I doubt that EMDs are completely dead, but they do have to be supported with great unique and relevant content. It's no longer as sure a thing as it once was, and the competition is fierce these days.

Never tried this - but surely it would.

Let's get rid of one misconception here, which flies around in general.

Google did not punish or penalize the EMDs.

They have just reduced the SEO weightage to the domain name in terms of keyword-richness (I don't know whether that applies to the URL as a whole and I don't think it does, but don't know the answer to this yet). That's all.

They are going more and more for branding. This makes sense because it makes the Internet a level-playing field.

The playing field has definitely changed.

I've seen some sites that were once on top go all the way down to the bottom because of SEO.

It plays a key role in making sure your website is visible nowadays. And with all those updates that Google has been so happy to throw around, IM requires more devotion now.
