Questions About Creating a Squeeze Page

Hi, firstly congrats on deciding to create a squeeze page. 'The lifeblood' of any Internet marketing career.
Without a squeeze page you are forever playing second fiddle to the marketer who is collecting leads.
Ok you can promote products as an affiliate and make good money! But you will always be the bridesmaid and never the bride!
1) You can have a blog, with multiple landing pages

2) If you choose the correct hosting package, you can achieve multiple blogs, and landing pages. Even with just the one domain!

3) The best and easiest 'theme' for Wordpress squeeze pages is 'Optimizepress'

4) With Wordpress, using a theme is just as easy if not easier as using HTML

5) If you are offering a free product for the purpose of buildiing your list. I recommend a simple one page 'squeeze' with the optin box above the fold. No need for a long sales page- you are giving something of value away!

6) It is advisable to set up a different list for each niche you are going after, remember though not to diversify too much and dilute your efforts. You can always 'segment' your list using your autoresponder.

Just to add on to that I agree with Brian with optimizepress I use it and love it and it makes websites pop but if you don't want to invest that kind of money just yet I have used a squeeze page from James Francis at pointandclicksqueeze dot com it costs about $7 approx if I remember correctly that works great and is super easy to use.

Okay, I'm going to try to answer as many of your questions as I can now. You can use wordpress. You don't need additional plugins. You should definitely use the domain name for multiple pages as long as the products are similars with the niche of your page. On your squeeze page you do not overload your visitors with useless information. Just tell em what you got. Tell em how it benefits them, and tell em what to do next.

Should I also have a blog on my squeeze page? I know it will help with SEO but is it a good idea? Thanks for the responses.

U can still have your website on that same domain, I.e your blog or whatever u want. BUT on your squeeze page there shoud be no other links to any other pages.

For example I have my whole membership site on the same site I have my squeeze page, but u can't find those pages because my landing page goes to my squeeze, and there's no escaping my squeeze page unless they exit (even when they exit I hit em with a "wait" offer, and even when they leave that I hit em with a quick product offer lol...)

Basically u can have ur whole site built and just change ur landing page to ur squeeze page, u can do that by setting ur home page in wordpress.

I would say use optimizepress - very easy. Insanely fast. Very clean, and have never had issues with it.

I think you're possibly not using some of these words in exactly the same ways as the people replying to you, Tim? That's just going to lead to confusion all round.

Maybe a little clarification will help?

A landing page is simply the page on which your traffic lands - it can be absolutely any kind of page you like: a content-rich page, an article, a squeeze page, a non-squeeze-page opt-in, a sales page, a contents page, a blog home page ... whatever you like. It's your site and you get to choose. You can even have different landing pages on the same website, and direct traffic from different sources to each.

A squeeze page is a short page with a prominently incentivized opt-in (the incentivization is traditionally done with short, "salesy" text with a few bullet-points, but it doesn't have to be, and these days there are "video squeeze pages" too) and NO other content. If there are other contents/options/links, too, then it isn't a "squeeze page", by definition.

You can perhaps see, now, why "having a blog on a squeeze page" is a contradiction in terms?!

A sales page is a (typically longer) page which similarly presents the visitor with one option - to buy something. (It can occasionally have a choice of things to buy, or a choice of ways to buy them, but that's the principle, anyway).

As long as it needs to be, to answer all the objections. In other words, typically, it's in proportion to the price. People spending $97 have more objections to be handled than people spending $7. Freebies typically don't need long sales pages.

Make sure you're not confused between "giving people something free, in exchange for their email address" (squeeze page) and "selling people something" (sales page).

Yes; yes, you should, in principle. Deciding "not to build a list" is like deciding "not to build a real, asset-based business". It just makes no overall sense, when compared with the alternative.

Squeeze pages have been my bread and butter for over a year now.

The best advice I can give is to keep it simple, and to split test, split test, split test.

Well here is my 2 cents worth ...

This is totally your choice, just so long as your traffic is being sent to your squeeze page to capture their email. You could send the traffic to your blog aswell and offer your free gift there as well, but apply a pop up to again capture their email.


2. Should the website only have one page, the landing page?

Again that depends on yourself, I tend to have my landing pages seperatley on some sites just test it.

3. Can you use Wordpress to make a squeeze page? If so, are there any plugins that i need? Can you point me to a guide?

Yes you can, and you wont need to use many plugin's .... I invested in optimize press simply because it converts well landing pages.


Also I think you have a sales page confused with a squeeze page, read up on alexa's explanation about this.

One thing with a list, it is your asset. If you dont build a list then your shooting yourself in the foot. Any niche you go into you need a list of customers who want to buy your product/service.

Now simply your squeeze pages ultimate goal is to capture your potential customers. so below is a quick overview of what should be in your squeeze page:

1: A strong headline that captures your potential customer attention, explaining their problem.

2: Then a subheading that can offer a solution

3: Bullet points of your free gift or offer explaining benefits

5: A call to action explaining what to do next

6: an image of your free offer and a call to action

that's a simple base of a squeeze page.

I know that you've received a lot of feedback here. But, let me take a stab at your questions. The more points of view that you get, the better you'll get.

Like someone has said before - that's up to you. I have seen it done many ways. Personally I would not devote any entire .com to just one squeeze page. I've had the most success having a main URL for each larger project. Then, you can have a website for that project, whatever it might be, and then you can add squeeze pages on top of that.

So, xyz.com might be your sales page - but, you send traffic to xyz.com/squeeze to grab their email addresses. You might even want to have multiple squeeze pages for each offer and test which one works the best. So you could have xyz.com/squeeze1 and xyz.com/squeeze2 and xyz.com/squeeze3


2. Should the website only have one page, the landing page?

This kind of feeds into the question above. I would recommend having a sales page on the index page and then organizing squeeze pages and a members area (if needed) on top of that.

However, I have seen bigger product launches use an entire domain with only one landing page - I mean, it's actually pretty common so I'm sure that it's effective.

There are plenty out there, I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I've actually got a really great one launching very soon called CapturePress (check my signature if you would like). But, there are several choices, it just depends on what level of effort that you want to or are able to put in.

For instance, OptimizePress is pretty simple to use. I've also heard good things about Rocket Leads. Let me just throw out that the problem with a lot of these is the steep learning curve - in the time it takes to really get the hang of many of these plugins, you might as well learn a little HTML and code your own squeeze page.

Just gonna' throw out that's why I made CapturePress - very shallow learning curve, if any at all. Ok, no more self-promotion, I'm sorry. I'm just really passionate about squeeze pages. Like a couple others have said - they really can be your bread and butter. List marketing is an incredible tool!

4. Is it better to make the landing page entirely out of HTML? Does it make a difference?

To echo others, remember that the squeeze page captures email addresses. A landing page refers to the page where you send traffic. A squeeze page *could* be your landing page, but just make sure that you don't get confused.

Now, I personally use my own WP plugin so the squeeze pages that I use are all dynamically created with PHP but they end up as HTML when a user visits them. Most people will code their pages with just straight HTML. You can then style the page with CSS.

5. How long should the sales page be? I will be offering a free product, but how long should the description of the product be?

A sales page can be very long. Long enough to get out all of the information that you need to get out. Usually, the longer the better when it comes to sales pages.

Now, you'll probably be offering your free product on a squeeze page which, as others have said, is different from a sales page. Your squeeze page should be pretty short. A headline, a description, some bullet points to highlight the benefits, then your optin form with a call to action. Perhaps you could add a product image or a presell video to entice visitors.

Most good plugins or themes will help make sure that you get a good layout on your squeeze page.

6. Should I try to build a list in every niche?

I cannot unequivocally answer 'yes' but it's *almost* always the best way to go. You want to separate your subscribers into different lists for a few reasons.

1. You don't want to send a promotion about a basket weaving course to someone that opted into your squeeze page to get a dog walking course. Remember, it's all about consistency. You only want your subscribers to receive messages from you that are on similar topics. That way, you can build yourself up as an authority. Besides, if you send someone an offer that they have never shown interest in, they'll probably unsubscribe.

2. Splitting into different lists allows you to better analyze each list's performance

3. You can go even further and separate your lists into subscribers and buyers. When you have a promotion that you would like to send out - send one message to your subscribers and try to interest them in a presell manner. Then, send out something close to a real offer to your buyers list since you already know that they're ready to spend.

I just made a tutorial about how to create a squeeze page using Wordpress. It only takes me a few minutes. You could purchase a new domain or use subdomains (which I do a lot).
