How do I profit from my website

Hi Guys,

I have a site which posts videos of trending topics and over the last 30 days its gone from <100 visits per day to 1000+ and growing by around 100 per day - something just went viral and I got over 400 hits in around 30 mins.

Country visits look like this:

Country / Territory Visits Avg. Visit Duration
United States 7,715 00:00:19
United Kingdom 816 00:00:43
Canada 636 00:00:16
Germany 350 00:00:10
Australia 264 00:00:18
Japan 208 00:00:30
Italy 181 00:00:19
France 177 00:00:09
Philippines 170 00:00:47
Brazil 156 00:00:19

I can see that the visitor doesn't stay long on the site - which I find strange due to it being a video site?

These are the stats for the last 30 days:

Visits: 13,586
Unique Visitors: 12,941
Pageviews: 16,684
Pages / Visit: 1.23
Avg. Visit Duration: 00:00:21
Bounce Rate: 86.08%
% New Visits: 95.20%

And these are the stats for the last 30 days:

81.70%Search Traffic
10,854 Visits
2.98%Referral Traffic
396 Visits
15.31%Direct Traffic
2,034 Visits

I added adsense to the site which started very promising making around £5 per day and increaseing - but the site got banned due to some adult content (which was trending) - luckly my adsense account didnt get banned.

I have tried adding a pop-up with a little Yes or No question which redirects to a CPA offer ($500 amazon gift card) which has been unsuccessful

The site is What Is Trending | A collection of the most trending videos

Anyone with any ideas how I can make money with this - or how much it would be worth if I flipped it.

Also forgot to mention that the alexa ranking is dropping quickly - dropped 1,500,000 in a week and is currently at 3,500,000 which I think is good for a site a little over a month old.

I appreciate any comments

Try CPV networks. It will add some revenue and you can also sell advertising space.

Is the content on the blog auto-posted?

The problem you have Adam is that there is no specific target audience for your blog and you're getting every Tom, Dick and Harry on there.

Given your circumstances, the best bet for you is Adsense. Can you not get your site un-banned?

I can see why CPA offers didn't work too great for you. It's mainly to do with your traffic being untargeted. Your website bounce rate is high because it looks too thin, a bit like a splog [spam blog].

My advice would be to try to get Adsense back on your website. If that doesn't work, see if there are other ad networks, which will accept your website.

    Best wishes.

  • Hi Adam,

First, you said your Adsense earnings was up to £5/day before the ads were pulled down. Study the ads that were displayed during that period, i.e. Were they CPC or CPM ads? If most were CPC ads: What were the advertised products/services/others? (this could most likely mean some of your viewers clicked on those ads, so they were interested in those advertised what-have-yous)

Second, entice your viewers to sign up as your mailing list subscribers. You can do this by offering subscribers updates related to the products/service offers/what-have-yous that were advertised (by the ads that were clicked) and a weekly summary of the trending videos that were posted along with links pointing to those videos and descriptions...

Third, find affiliate products and CPA offers related to the ads that were clicked. Display your affiliate links in the section of your site where the Adsense ads were originally displayed. Promote those affiliate products and CPA offers to your mailing list subscribers. Monitor your results. Or:

Go to prospect companies and site owners who could most likely be interested in advertising on your site. Show them your traffic stats along with data about the Adsense ads that were clicked by your viewers when you still had Adsense ads. Tell them that, instead of charging them your standard monthly advertising rates, you'd give them a discount if they agree to have your affiliate links (which point to their sales and squeeze pages) anchored by their banner and text link ads which you'll display on your site. This way, you get a monthly retainer from them along with affiliate commissions generated by their ads on your site. Of coruse, tell them you'll also do your own offsite and social media marketing campaigns, so you can get more viewers seeing their banner and text ads, which could in turn earn you more affiliate commissions from more sales and leads (for them) generated by their ads...
