Default The Power Of Stumbleupon!

Hello,

(EVERYTHING I'M TELLING YOU NOW IS 5 HOURS AGO - AND 3 HOURS AGO WHEN I FINISH THIS THREAD!)

I just want to share this with you warriors, and I hope someone can use this, because it just helped me!

So this is my quick story:

I have a website which I didnt use for much, so instead of just leave it and earn me nothing, I decided to make a small website about the keywords in the domain-name, so I used 2 hours on building a small website with google adsense ads!

I was only hoping that it would earn something like $20 per month, so I earned SOMETHING!

I have never actually believed in social bookmarking because it never worked for me, except. . . This time, because:

I bookmarked the website to Stumbleupon, Digg, Reddit, Diigo, Delicious & Propeller, it took about 20 minutes, because I wanted to make it right and get the titles, and descriptions look attractive.

So when I was done doing this social bookmarking thing, this is what I did:

I went to google, to check if my site was indexed, it wasnt, but I saw something funny, because 2 of my bookmarks where already indexed with descriptions and everything, and google was saying:
digg.com/pets_animals/something_something_something - 3 minutes ago

So I was stunned already now, because that was pretty cool.. Well I wanted to take a break so I played Counter Strike for 30 minutes, and went back to google and searched for my website again, and it was indexed.

The newxt thing I did, and here it comes.. I went to my google adsense accound and WTF!! My 5 hours ned ad recieved over 2.500 impressions with a CTR over 7% (7,58% exactly).. It turned out to be 190 clicks and $38,62 earned!! So that's about $0.20 per click... But I thought, where do these clicks came from, because my website was indexed, but not in a highly searched keyword, so I went to statcounter.com and checked out where recent visitors came from and this is where they came from:

Stumbeupon.com !!

Someone liked it and bookmarked, and then some other people bookmarked it, so now over 11 people have bookmarked my website, and the clicks is rising. I don't know if the visitors is going away at some point, I think they are, but I have already made 2 months earnings on this website!

That's the power social bookmarking and stumbeupon have.

Hope anyone could use this!

Best Regards,
Morten

Glad it worked for you. I've never had those results with StumbleUpon. I have sites that do okay with Google AdSense, but when pages on those sites get stumbled, traffic goes up, but ad clicks have been unaffected so far as I can see.

I have had great results with stumbleupon as well. As you have found out, google LOVES these sites and seems to index them constantly. I have not had such luck with Digg.

I love SU traffic. Have gotten tons of traffic just from stumbling one page that lasted for 3-4 days. Digg ... I hate it. Waste of time in my opinion unless you're a big name site. Most little sites get buried in no time at all. I have to say though ... never saw any rise in income from all that SU traffic ... exciting to watch but nothing to put in the bank because of it.

I've also had some luck with stumble. Occasionally I'll get a serious traffic spike and wonder what in the #$%$ is going on. When I head to analytics I'm always surprised to see that a post I bookmarked last year on stumble upon suddenly became popular.

A great way to boost this is to get a group of about 10 webmasters and once a week send each of them a link to a post you have written and get them all to stumble it (and then you will stumble theirs). That way you get 10 thumbs up right off the bag and a big influx of traffic, hopefully leading to more thumbs up

This is a powerful technique. I've yet to actually try it but friends of mine say it is really helpful to drive traffic. The problem is you can go too far with it - apparently. Bookmarking groups should always be in small numbers and always bookmark at different times so it doesn't look like an obvious campaign. This is the advice I received anyway.

Thanks for the replies folks..

I just wanted to share this with you, because I have never really believed in SU because it never worked for me.

The traffic is steady right now and I have made something like $80 so far with a CTR about 6,9%, so I think the time was well spend, to be honest.

The problem with StumbleUpon traffic is that they tend to leave as quickly as they came. They just click Stumble, find your site, read the page, then Stumble onto the next site.

However, those results are impressive.

Interesting stuff!

I've had very mixed results from those social media sites (especially StumbleUpon) so it's good to hear some positive news.

Maybe I'll have to give it another spin

I have had good results with SU and Propeller. You can really see the traffic spikes if many users "stumble" or "vote" for your articles.
