Ditching the Lists, Do you have a List?

Ok ive decided to Unsubscribe from all lists but 2:

1) Perry marshall list
2) Howie 's list

Im so sick of getting 5-6 emails from guru's per day promoting the same la de da, fancy program which will of course make us all wealthy greedy little men and women.

My question is, if these guru's are so good at what they do, ie aritcle marketing, PPC ect ect - then why do most offer little to no advice and just continue to pitch OTHER peoples new offers.

Well I already have the answer:

They just make money selling "Make Money Products"
But actually have no idea how to do any other type of IM.

Why is this a problem?
When I subscribe to their list I expect good content and advice, Im not on their list to have a sales person in my ear every time I open my mail!

    Hi,

I understand your frustration. I experienced the same thing. Some of the guru, they just want to make money and they don't give us any advises. There one of the problems online.

But, well we just need to go where the good advises are. Right?

    bye

I feel the same way Kitejunkie. There are a few lists that I look forward to seeing new stuff from and then there are others that I should have unsubscribed from a long time ago that just hype products and give no real value.

You guys are on the wrong lists.

I'm not going to preech for my own list, but I follow the fule of having around a 8:2 ratio between giving valuable free stuff (content, articles, software, graphics, etc) and promotion.

Just have a look around and subscribe to a few. You can always unsubscribe.

I also love Michel Fortin's list, as his blog posts are always awesome to read.

yeah, they make money selling products in fiercely competitve and jaded market. What could they possibly know about REAL internet marketing?!?!?

      **I am being very sarcastic**

Seriously, do not discount someone's marketing advice because you somehow think marketing to the IM niche is somehow not really marketing. This is not the same thing as saying someone only got rich from selling get-rich advice (like "Rich dad poor dad").

I finally got fed up last week and unsubscribed from about 15 different lists. There are a select few I'm still on, not even so much to get content (it's a bit lacking) but to follow what's happening.

I had a list clean out a few months back. I was sick of them all. I'm now only subscribed to Eben Pagan, John Reese, Frank Kern, and Jeff Walker.

I only stay subscribed to see how they are wording their emails...
The trends seem to vary at the same time...

The whole list building thing is fun to me and frustrating at the same time. I stopped buying stuff and started paying attention to the system of how others mail to me and promote their products.

Because we live in a hype filled internet, it's hard not to go chasing the next big email campaign as I find myself doing many times over.

I love the idea of providing valuable content free because my list needs to know I want them to succeed online. But on the other hand if any of you are building lists then you know it's for eventually making money.

I've seen it both ways where I get valuable emails giving time, talents, good content and I've seen emails promoting one after another product after product.

Depending on the "Gurus" you follow, they either tell you to value your list or beat it to death to get the most money out of them as you can. I myself choose the first so I can suggest the following...

Use one email for those who give great content and value while using another to study from. I also study from emails that have gotten me to act as we need to constantly be teachable along with building our businesses online.

I find myself opening the rare email from those I respect while constantly deleting those I get every day. It seems if we get sick of those every day emails and get off of their lists, they must have some power list building method to keep the inflow of emails coming.

    Any ideas?

I am planning to unsubscribe from most of the list that i am on also. They just keep sending offers after offers.

I will always be on Travis Sago's list though and a selected few. But for the most part I will do a mass unsubscribe pretty soon.

Perry has one of the best newsletters I have ever read. I just wish I knew which of his products to buy.

I am still on a few others, but I really come close to ditching most of them...there isn't anything they won't promote.

I haven't gotten to the "unsubscribe from all but the best lists" phase yet. As long as I remember why I signed up for a list and as long as the products that people promote in their emails are decent, then I won't unsubscribe, even if the promos are a little aggressive. I'm on a few lists, some of which you could probably guess, where I receive nothing but copy/paste promos every day or two. But I don't really mind those because the products they promote work for some people.

What I can't stand are marketers without personalities. That's why I love Michael Cheney's emails. Even though he's almost always promoting the latest thing, his emails are always strangely funny and his videos are wicked.

Back to the main point: I don't think people who are rich merely by blasting out promos for the latest IM launches deserve their guru status. They have tainted the term. I am, however, on the lists of a few respectable marketers who make their living solely from the IM industry, but I think a real guru would be someone who could completely stay away from IM and still make good money online.

This is a really good point.
I have a list of my own and I am trying to work out how to make money from it.
I think I will definately go the route of giving helpful advice and then just linking to sales pages in my signature

You're getting great content on many of them. Want to learn something? Just pay attention to the promos you're receiving. That in itself is worth the admission price!

Glad to hear im not the only one. And yes I think if guru's are there selling only products on how to make money online, then what do these guru's actually know much about IM. I mean if they have never made money any other way?

ryanmacca - If you send enough good content out with your emails Im sure people will want more and visit your site, and buy prodcuts you are promoting. Also I think its a good idea to have sales pitch in your sig or even at the end of a email occasionally.
