I use Akismet - it's already there in WP - just activate it. Oh = you need to get a WP key from the WP website

Bad behavior is also a good one. It apparently stops those bad spam bot thingies!! ;-)

        Major co-sign on Akismet.

BB is great too, but just be aware that it may also occasionally block good bots and spiders. I've had issues with the AdWords bot getting blocked by it before.

A plugin called bad behavior will take care of the bots.

  • Akismet is the most popular. I have been using it for a year now and have never had any problems. It is very good at catching spam. I have a over 99% success rate.

i find aksimet works fantastically for me ... i wouldn't even bother looking anywhere else ...

also, make sure you're setup that all comments need approval before posting (i think this is default anyway, but worth checking)

I too use Aksiment but I still get sick of deleting spam all of the time. Is there a way to automatically delete all spam caught or do I have to always manually delete them?

I come to this post to make a comment and end up asking a question. Go figure. I love Wordpress though as my blog platform.

Yeah the blog comments are set up to be approved first before being published but after the first approved comment, all the rest by the same user will automatically be approved as well.

Be careful of spammers who make that first legit comment only to come back and spam the heck out of your blog.

I believe that by default the newest versions of WP and Akismet will automatically delete spam comments after 15 days. I give the list a once over about once a week to make sure nothing has been unduly blocked and let WP take care of the rest.

Another vote for Aksiment. It just simply works. You will have to get an ID from Wordpress, but follow the directions that the plugin gives you.
