Try akismet and a captcha plugin. For added protection, use a WP hash-based spam plugin.

If that doesn't kill comment spam, I don't know what will.

I agree with this. Both tools combined made my spam 0%, with most comments not even having links, only links to different pages and articles of my sites

just type "spam" into the plugin search in the wordpress backend there are a ton of plugins that block this automatic comment spam.

While we're on the subject I would also install "OSE firewall" just for extra security.

Disable commenting altogether, or as others have posted - have them fill out a capcha.

Use the WP anti-spam plug-in and you will get zero spam (at least at present) SI captcha as others of said is also a good idea to make it a belt and braces job. If your site is not active for comments turn them off, do it from 'Quick Edit' in the WP admin

Hi,

If you are not interested for any comments to your blog delete the comment.php which can be seen on your appearance -> editor -> comment.php
