Big hint for you: Focus on stock picks. These people want stock picks. If you develop a knack for picking stocks.....and start a stock picking newsletter...sky's the limit!

Rob,

My comment is to pick a corner of the stock market arena that seems to be underserved. I think you will have trouble competing in the general market because of all the big players (like brokerages, banks, yada, yada) with big money trying to get clients.

Specialize and drill down deep - there will still be plenty of opportunity for you as a newcomer.

Seth Godin talks about servicing what he calls "the edges." Look for ways to make money in the niche but away from the "center" where all the big players live.

  One other thing deserves mentioning, even if you already know it.
  
  Any time you discuss a stock in something you publish, be VERY careful about when (or if) you trade in that stock. You don't want the SEC accusing you of pumping and dumping.

how do you find people in this niche? Advertising is insanely expensive

SEO, affiliates (if you list on clickbank and can prove your site converts you will get affiliates), posting on stock market message boards. The only ones that can afford paid advertising are the penny stock promoters...which is something I don't want to get into for personal reasons.

One last way is to get in good with existing vendors in this niche....but you just can't send them an email asking them "hey can you send an email blast to mah new site!!??" You have to try to win their friendship first...offer to make them a pdf or something that they can send to their list...no strings attached.

Finding people would be through forums initially. And joint venture partners. I would have to give away 50% of revenues to JV's.

Insanely good niche to get into. Yeah, there are a few things you need to comply with (ie.. you can't do pump and dump scams etc) but all in all it is great. Think about this.. who are you going to be marketing to? People who have money to gamble/invest already? This is the perfect person to target. They are usually more affluent than others, and don't mind spending a few hundreds dollars. Not only that, but, there are many stock markets outside of america. Many americans unbelievably do not realize this. So, your target demographic is quite large.

have belonged to the forex and emini niche for years. I have been there before and a retired ex-stockbroker myself.

Its been very good to me, and if you are willing to waist some dollars initially on PPC it can be very lucrative once you sort thing, and test out winning campaings.

The stock market is a niche. As you ask, however, for who? I am a retired Financial Specialist from a huge banking institution and I say it depends on the person, their profile (age, income, life insurance, IRA's, etc) as to what kind of investing in the market they should be doing. So, a lot goes into investing and is not Cart Blanch

The stock market can indeed be a lucrative niche. There are quite a few good clickbank products and affiliate products. Getting traffic isn't that easy as you'll be up against the real big boys unless you can find yourself some good low competition keywords.
If you can make a high traffic stock market website I think the revenues would be much higher than most other niches.
