Using Password Protected Wordpress Page for Premium Content

Has anybody ever used the above as a method for delivering premium content?

Eg.

  • Video Tutorial package broken into modules.
  • Upon purchase, customer receives link and password for locked WP page.
  • Locked page displays download links for video content modules.

Anyone here used this method? Just brainstorming possible lo-cost ideas for content delivery

From what I read in the past (threads in this forum too), many have been doing this strategy.

    Password gets shared, boom.

Look into getting a membership plugin. There was a really good one by one of the members here, basically tied an IP to a key & PayPal purchase. The name escapes me but it was something to do with WSO.

Although I would reckon that your product/video/content will eventually find a way past the paywall (with the condition that it's good enough)... so might as well keep it low maintenance and free of hassle.

I was going to buy Optimize Press for another project, and I believe they have membership functionality built into the theme. May take that route. Appreciate the comment.

The method you describe is the most common set up for delivering most content.

Perhaps the only difference is that most video content is viewable on the site and doesn't require to be downloaded.

Good shout, might embed video using Optimize Press to create a user-friendly tuition site as opposed to a straight download
