Its a news story that everyone is carrying because its scary to the ignorant so it gets a lot of attention. Its a worm that is designed to operate undetected on your computer and be used in a bot net for illegal activities. It takes advantage of a windows operating system security hole which was plugged with an update last October. Hopefully you run auto update as a habit. Its easy to prevent... but if you are already infected it is essentially impossible to detect unless you download a detection and removal kit to another computer and then transfer the file to the infected machine and run it. The entire purpose of this worm is to be completely invisible so that you hopefully wont notice it is there. It even creates a fake MS patch once it installs itself to conceal its presence on unupdated machines. |

Ahm.. It's NOT "conflicker" it's conficker (no "L" in it) If you're running a firewall, and any other good program to keep your computer clean, you're probably okay. I ran a scan on my unit last night, and no problems. Do a Google search for "conficker" and you'll come up with some programs to help you check your computers. Pete |

Heard on several news programs this morning that the way to text your computer is try to go to security-related sites like microsoft.com, mcafee.com or norton.com - if you can see these sites, you're OK. If you can't get to these sites, you probably have the worm. If you have the worm, you'll have to download the removal tool from MS or another security site from an uninfected computer to a CD and upload it to the infected computer. MS recommends you use a CD because a closed CD would not be writable and therefore could not get infected. |

I was scared that I have this worm. I formatted multiple times & still have some major issues such as 1603 error or whatever & cannot install MSN or adaware or the latest version of Yahoo messenger. I can view the Microsoft website , norton etc It looks like I will have to rough it w/o some of these programs until I can get a new PC or something. Something is def screwed up from virus I got a week ago & am surprised that a format did not fix it like it had in the past. |
