Help me improve my opt-in form

Hi
I am still struggling with opt-in form. I started list building 2 months ago. I put together a 6 step guide and and have seen less then 1% opt-ins. I have change the headline and form seven times and am split testing but have not seen any improvments. Will seriously take any advice.

It looks alright to me. A good solution would be to drive more traffic to your site. When a good number of visits happen, you'll get to see the true percentage of your opt-in rate. It's too hard to tell the true number when you're not getting enough visits. It's the Law of Averages here.

I agree with 'thezafragroup' your opt in looks fine to me. I think what you need to do is to drive more traffic to your site. Try being active on forums that are related to your niche or create a facebook fan page to generate free traffic. If you are willing to spend $$$ then you can advertise in directories or solo ads. paying money get leads faster.

You don't have a photo of the product.
You should have something in the email box, like "enter email here."
      The words are tiny.
Mention a benefit instead of the book.
The red arrow makes it look spammy.

If you can afford it maybe pay for a better one instead of the free crap you get.

How much traffic are you getting? What else are you testing on the page?

It could be a few different things but if you've been testing then it sounds like a lack of traffic problem or not testing the right thing yet.

I can give you a load of reasons of my own...but they won't beat testing. Maybe give the message more "life". Add something like "and the #3 mistakes you MUST avoid..." etc etc, just think laterally.

If you want to improve it, test it. Test it against an opt in form that's very different from the current one. Also test it against one with just a small change in design, colour or text.

The opt-in form location is good. I would introduce a "lightbox" hover ad on the page to boost your conversion rates (you can easily do this with Aweber, which is obviously what you use).

It's good that you have an opt-in form on every page of your site. How much traffic are you getting per day?

The lead magnet is a bit weak, and you should look at that first.

Give away a video, discount code, or something of real value.

Then you need to spend some money and get a better graphic with a real call to action, your main site headline is window treatment. Will getting the windows treated result in saving money? In this climate saving money is probably more important than fashion.

Overall you've got the form in the right place, and the only other thing may be to invest in a premium theme?

I get between 50 and 150 visits per day. I am not testing anything else.

A graphic in the opt in form or the little guy with the hammer?

Thanks for all your advice, it's very helpful.

I think a graphic(within your opt-in form) would be very effective. Are they getting the 'Top 10 Secret Window Fashion Tips' in an E-Mail, or in a PDF? I think you should send them it in a really nice PDF...and have the cover of the PDF as your graphic. Your visitors will believe they are going to get something of value(which they are) when they enter their E-Mail.

Personally, I don't like 'sign up'. It sounds too official. Instead, what about 'Get it now!' or 'Get it free!'? Much more effective and eye-catching, in my opinion.

I agree with Liam about the sign up. I may want the guide and be willing to give you my email for it but I don't want news and updates. Sounds (to me) like I will be getting more emails from you than I want. Make sure your guide has links to your products/site in it.

Yeah, I forgot to say that I would completely remove the 'sign up for news and updates' above the form. Once you have given them their freebie and told them a bit about yourself(the start of the relationship) then you can explain that they will be receiving news and updates. By that time, they will(hopefully!) want to and it will even be like a bonus to them, as they perhaps only thought they would receive the freebie.

Are you using google optimizer to split test your landing page?

I have seen graphic that look like a book, do you know where I can get something like that?

I like the "Discover The Top 10 Secret Window Fashion Tips."

Take out the sign up for news and updates and put in another benefit to opting in.

Your should definitely have an image of your 'special report', to draw your visitors eye to it straight away.

Make your report at least a PDF.

        And here's a sneaky trick...

Don't have your optin form on the page....

Instead put your optin form right inside the PDF.

        It works like this...

        - you create your report in PDF format.
        - You embed your optin form inside the PDF

Now when visitors come to your site, they download your 'special report' PDF (no strings attached) BUT when they first open your PDF report they have to then optin to be able to read it.

Following this strategy, I increased my optin by 147% compared to the usual .... optin before downloading approach.

I don't really know what I'm getting when I stick my email in that box, are you going to send me something? A product? What benefits do I get from signing up? It's not clear. A picture of the guide would help and more clear information on what I'm getting.

Maybe change the 'sign up' button to 'Get my guide instantly'. Sign up makes me think of something I need to pay for.
