Driving traffic to my wifes website

Good morning Warriors,

My wife and I have launched a website in the UK for personalised baby gifts, I have worked on the on page SEO, page names, H1's, unique content etc.

....However, we are struggling to rank the site for the keyword (it's currently on page 5)

Could anyone please spare any time to give us some advice or tips on what we need to be doing to help our site climb the rankings,

I've posted a link in my sig, if this is against the rules, please let me know and I will remove it.

Thanks in advance

Are you sure that the kw research has been done right? Easy keywords with low competition since this is your first time?

I've tried to rank for the keyword in my sig, I was thinking of trying to rank for "Baby Gifts" but this is a massively competitive keyword, so diluted it with Personalised, as this is what we do

Go with keywords which you can easily incorporate into your content and has high monthly searches along with low competition. I think this is your best bet when wanting to rank your keywords on search engines.

Also, since you are into personalized baby gifts, why not start a blog? There are plenty of people out there who may be interested in learning what you have to teach them about your chosen field. Not to mention it helps with SEO.

Write review articles. Use Squidoo, Hubpages... consider driving traffic via YouTube, place SM bookmarking buttons, allow comments via a commenting system - I use Disqus... these should also help you...

Overall, don't focus too much on keywords. Don't do too much exact match keyword backlinking as Google won't like it...

    You need to search:

    1. "baby" niche site both UK and outside UK
    2. any UK sites both the related sites and also the non related sites

Offer to them for exchanging links or buy links

The purpose of driving traffic is to drive sales.

So why don't you just focus your effort on getting awareness around your community first?

    Online Marketing:
    1. Posting your products directly onto leading UK baby forums classified section
    2. Creating a Facebook page and get targeted fans (offer reviews and tips for parents)
    3. Paid traffic using AdWord

    Offline Marketing:
    1. Post on newspaper classified regularly
    2. Joining your local community programs and let them know you are doing this
    3. Flyers

When there is frequent visits from various sources such as from related baby forums, social media page like facebooks and some increase in direct traffic, google will notice your page and give you a better ranking. So focus on Marketing your business instead of Search Engine Optimisation for your webpage, that's the mistake a lot of people make initially ... they thought SEO = Sales

In my opinion, off-site SEO is more important than on-site, though it should not be shrugged off. Comment on blogs related to your niche, and make yourself a name with facebook page, google+ page, and keep a blog (important).
That will increase your visibility online and on search engines in parallel.

Hi firstly the site looks good but you need to ad a disclosure page to it straight away secondly you will be getting hit for keyword spamming as every image has personalised in it on the home page, you need to mix these up and i would also increase the size of your text. Just a quick overview but i hope it helps

Hi Zeroms, looks like you have some great feed back, from personal experience I can only reiterate what has already been said, build your links thru facebook, build a blog and post to it regularly. make up some simple videos and post on you tube, even if you do not have experience of making videos, there is a great bit of software available that will convert your articles etc to video, its all about building back links in different places, eventually they all add up, good luck with your venture.

Firstly, have a read of this thread title - then ask yourself WHY you are only focusing on Google? This makes absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever.

As quoted by my mentor "Google should only be one piece of the traffic pie."

If you build your entire business around Google, you will wake up one morning and your entire business will be gone. This isnt a matter of "if" ...its a matter of "when".

    Here's a tip ...

    DIVERSIFY YOUR TRAFFIC CHANNELS.

    Read that twice.

    Here's another tip.

Get rid of that domain name - its ridiculous.

You've got such a beautiful website, and you're ruining it with all of this Google nonsense. Your business is called personalisedbaby so why not have personalisedbaby.com?

....umm hang on, I just typed that domain in and its for sale.

Have you considered the potential issues with this? Or have you at least considered buying this domain to protect your asset?

Listen....forget about keyword shenannigans - BUILD A BRAND.

You've got a great website, don't mess it up by going down this path (you'll be sorry).

2 more tips before I finish up.

    1. Reduce the height of the header. Your page content is too far below the fold.
    2. Get your email capture HIGHER up the page. At the moment its stuffed down the bottom which is pointless. Remember - email marketing is part of building traffic too.

Lovely website mate. Some great advice here from the other Warriors, don't rely on just Google. Pinterest would be a perfect fit for your niche also - well worth a look

you need to focus more on your list building.

offer more freebies, and drive yoru traffic to your optin spots, more web 2.0 articles, forums, facebook group posting etc.

This is big niche, but these customers are hungry for what you want. But I would do the whole listbuilding thing, concentrate on that more. Think how can i get more subscribers, for free...and then network with other companies out there, especially if they have big lists.

You need higher quality backlinks. Use guest posts on other baby sites. Use press releases to spread the word and establish relationships with other baby sites. Do review exchanges for SEO....

Wow, sorry for the delay in getting back to you guys, had a bad week.

Thank you for all of the constructive tips and advice, I'm glad some of you like the sites design, I'm quite proud of it!.... I'll take it all on board and start trying to make roads into building more of a brand.

The reason I have the domain is, I have personalised-baby.co.uk which currently forwards to personalised-baby-blankets.co.uk, my wifes core business, Personalised Baby is essentially the brand, we then have niches within the brand.

Thanks again guys, you've helped alot!

Whatever you decide to do, do it BEFORE you start promoting your site. As said above, I would highly advise against trying to build a brand on anything like our-website-is-the-best.com.

Get yourself something that people will resonate with.

That domain name will fail the phone test, and any other form of word of mouth or offline promotions.

The simple fact that I went straight to personalisedbaby.com is proof of this.

I bet you're already having to repeat the domain name to people (or at least spell it out)

      Annoying isnt it?

Driving traffic is a gradual process. It can take months to bring a site at the top of search engines. Follow the procedure suggested by other users. You will get the benefit for sure. Do not go for anything blackhat for instant result.

Find a few mommy bloggers in your niche, offer to write a guest post (a GREAT one - not spammy), and get a link within the author section.

It takes leg work, but you can get solid traffic and great links using guest posting

Well first of all if you did SEO/knew about SEO then you would know your signature is terrible. You need to hyperlink the keyword you want to rank for and link it to the landing page. Look at my sig and you will understand. Read more about SEO.

Forget about ranking and start focusing on social media marketing. The best platform for you would be: Facebook,Twitter, YouTube Pinterest, Instagram, Path, MySpace and forum for women.
Social mentions are now counted as crucial factor for ranking top in search engines.

    Good Luck

    Nice site zeroms

A couple of people have mentioned it - but YouTube is a great way to get a rankings boost.

The key is not to stress over this.
Just start making videos. Do one a day for the next month. It WILL feel awkward at first but do it anyway.

    It gets easier.

Make the video. Put it on YouTube. Make a blog post with the video embedded and a link (using your target keyword) back to YouTube.

    Make video about your products.
The answers to every question your customers ask should be answered in a video.
Then you can branch out into general “new parent” sorts of information.

Yea, there’s more to learn about when it comes to SEO for videos - but don’t bother until you’ve got 25-30 videos online.

If this is taking you more than a half hour (after you’ve done it 3 or 4 times) you’re doing it wrong.

To steal a phrase from Don Crowther

    "Just go do this stuff"

      Hi ,

I see you are using Magento , i love that script, Firstly i think you did a very good job .
      -Designing website
-It loads fast enough , but can be much much better
      - I see you got some smart extensions too

      SEO:
-Duplicate content is Not really managed good
-Link building is mostly blog comments not the best way

      What you can do ?

1:Fix duplicate issue if you dont know how let me know

      2:link building

Like others Mentioned in this thread forget google , you cannot forget Google , as still manages most of the search especially in uk, google hit sites pretty hard in last update but that dosent mean you cant rank again , you should Probably Try building smart links. Please avoid SEO packages in Warrior forum they are crazy , I found one quality service (but i highly dout if they can really do your niche, they are good at tech and webmaster topics and its is pretty expensive) http://www.warriorforum.com/warriors...s-traffic.html

TRy doing these when you get new link:
      -Build very relevant
-build high authority links (there have many factors if you cant judge let me know)
      -build them consistently
-try using domain or not exact keywords as anchors to fool google
      -avoid sitewide,footer , so on

3:Write some amazing content ,not just because you should write , but some articles that will really help getting more Visitors , like "8 personalized gift ideas your wife will never forget " sorry i know its irrelevant Just an example .

Note:Try to keep your bounce rate and G bounce rate very low ( google panda really consider this factor)

      Other ways:
-you can try to build some email list
-try some banners on baby sites
      -Try some Article marketing
      -Forum signatures
      - and this list goes on

      Sorry if my english sucks
