Hey guys,

Looking for advice on whether to distribute my course in downloadable product form or membership site ( one time fee )?? It's 3g of videos.

Advantages and disadvantages??

Opinions would be great.

Cheers

    SJ588,

The main reason people build membership websites is to provide valuable monthly content to their members and to build a RECURRING INCOME STREAM, where they get paid every month.

If you are asking for a one off fee [assuming its not too high] for regular content, then 1) will you be motivated to deliver week after week, month after month, after you run through the initial subscriptions? and 2) will your prospects take your offer seriously, if you promise them regular content for a one-off low fee?

Having said that, I have seen a one off fee model work before, where the content is member-generated. The Warrior Forum has switched to this model lately - you gotta pay $10 to join the party

membership sites have 'stickability' meaning your customers are more likely to return to your members area. ofcourse you have to feed content to keep them coming back.

How much are you planning to sell the membership?

      Membership will be $197.

I like the idea of having a place that ppl will return to. And adding new content as bonuses all the time. Still for one time fee.

I feel it creates good engagement and loyalty if they keep back to the "world" you create for them.

I have felt that way anyway with membership sites.

Ultimately though i want the easiest solution.

  • I run through this EXACT issue 3 years ago for one of my products: a beefy video training program.

I conducted the following split-test in my sales page: 50% of my visitors would see the training program formatted as an one-time $497 course, and the other 50% would see it formatted as a $39.95/month membership site. I thought the prices so the course would be priced at 12 times the membership monthly fee. The product, the sales pitch, and all the rest were absolutely the same - the only thing that changed was the pricing model and the content delivery method (either all at once, or month-by-month).

Guess what? The $497 one-time course format totally OUTPERFORMED the $39.95/month membership program format: it was getting more conversions, fewer refunds, more revenue, etc.

Conclusion: people don't like to wait for your content. If you can deliver it all at once, do so.

The only way to be sure is to do what Anonymous Affiliate did. Split test. It ultimately depends on who your target market is and what their needs are.

It really depends on your model. Splitting up the product and dripping it, that makes sense in a market that may be hesitant to spend the money up front. Its simply a payment plan. No reason not to offer both.

A true continuity income is forever, not based on installment payments. This works if you can build community or drip out timely content, for example new stock picks, or new software training, or ongoing support forums.
