Build Email List, Fight Event

Hi everyone

I am co-promoting an MMA fight event in my home county. Ive explained to the owner the value of building an email list in terms of marketing the event, and he's on board for using it as a strategy.

I have my Aweber account setup already, which I use for other projects. My question is - what would be the best way to build an email list of MMA fans in the south-east of england (regional)?

Initial idea - On the event flyers, create a contest where a VIP Table can be won by answering a simple question by email or txt eg. Which UK fighter would you like to see fight at KFN?

All suggestions warmly welcomed!

In IM lists are often built by giving away freebies - so while the question approach may work it might be more effective to offer a prize - maybe free tickets to the next event or similar. This is likely to have more people willing to give away their email.

Thanks for the feedback mate. In the example, I listed the VIP table for 8 as the prize - which has a value of over £300GBP

I believe you cannot manually add emails with AWeber so don't make an email sign up chart at the actual event for people to write down.

I would use Adwords and set targeting to local area, then keywords to local area like xyz town MMA for example...

Push to an email sign up form.

And yes, flyers are a good idea for this.

      Wow, didn't know that.. thanks.

What about having an iPad at the event, and inputting the name and email into the registration system there and then?

I suggest advertising on local newspapers, leave a site URL which is the squeeze page.

One thing you could do is facebook advertising. Since you can customize it so much you can target only the people in that region that are interested in MMA.
