Is it LEGAL or ETHICAL to...

Use part of or an entire sales video from the product creator of a WSO or Clickbank product to promote on your your end as an affiliate?

To be clear, I see a lot of affiliates promoting for JvZoo, Clickbank etc that are using the original creators sales video as their own promo video. Sometimes they add a couple different images in the mix, put a sound track over it or even speed it up...is this an acceptable practice?

Btw~ I see so many of them out their that I don't believe these affiliates are contacting the creators for permission.

What are your thoughts or insights...

It is always correct to ask, but I can't see many vendors having a problem with an affiliate using a promo video.

Thats where I am at. I just see so many mirrored sales videos out there, I was curious to what the norm is.

This is often the assumption within this industry...

"Everyone else is doing it, therefore it must be okay..."

This discussion came up recently in an IM group that I'm involved with and the resounding feedback was "NO", its not okay - unless of course, you have granted permission.

Many established marketers are a brand within themselves - and having someone else use their material without consent is just asking for trouble.

I'm with you man, it's more or less a respect thing with me regardless of the legalities involved.

Here's a question for you. How about these review sites that write a review, but post the original sales vid on the page.

I'm assuming the same answer "NO" lol

Use the same old recycled stuff and you'll just blend in with the crap.

It's not ok. Unless they specify the video is for marketing purposes. Like when it's on their affiliate tools page...that is fine. But just grabbing the sales video of the sales page is not ok without permission.

Just ask...I just faced this very same thing. I wanted to use some content from a webinar that I had screen recorded for future reference .

I asked the owner if it was ok to use some clips from it and he said "yes, as long as I can review it before anyone else sees it".

My guess, chances are you will get a similar answer. They want to help you because you are helping them but you can't just go stealing their stuff even though everyone else is doing it.

I saw some other affiliate for the same product using most of a the video from a similar sales webinar for his own promotional purposes. He added NONE of his own conntet. More or less just downloaded the webinar and uploaded it to Youtube. The vendor was not cool with that.

Thanks Nics. I appreciate your response and it's nice to hear from someone that just went through the experience.
