Win 8 drives me NUTS!

Guys, I simply cannot get used to win 8, I think that the metro thingy is terrible and the entire work flow is much slower.
Is there a way to force win 8 look like win 7?

I have win 8 installed on a brand new laptop, without and DVD

Any help will be highly appreciated!

Sam

Im still an XP guy by choice and love it. I always avoid new updates if possible, atleast until the dust settles and the bugs get worked out.

I wish you good luck tho

Good call, XP was the perfect operating system, they never needed to come out with another one but of course it was more lucrative to come out with the piece of junk that is/was vista. I haven't bothered trying windows 8, it looks like it is more difficult than it needs to be just as the OP mentions

A 64bit version of Windows 7 Business/Ultimate is 100 times better than Vista & XP. There's tons of holes & exploits in those versions. The same goes for Server 2003 vs 2008. 2008 R2 is more functional & more secure than the previous versions.

I believe, if it is Microsoft, then it has tons of holes and exploits, regardless of version or product. Always has been that way, always will be. It takes five miuntes to lock down a linux server, not the same for a new MS install.

You can install Windows 7 using an external Zip or CD drive that connects via USB...

You can find Windows 7 at NewEgg and Amazon...

Make sure you grab the correct version (i.e if you PC is 64 Bit, grab the 64bit version, much better memory utilization and speed)...

    Good luck...

This should help you. Except for the Metro interface, Windows 8 is extremely similar to Windows 7.

Try Classic Shell, a free, open-source utility that can mimic both the Windows 7 start menu and the older Windows XP version.

          I've been using Start8 - Start8 for Windows® 8 - Bringing back the Windows Start menu

It's free for 30 days so I'm just testing it out. It does the start menu well. But Windows 8 is just kinda crazy and does some things I don't understand...so I'm still trying to figure out work-arounds, or learning to tolerate it.

    and SO IT BEGINS!.....

    lol

That is why I like and trust windows 7 and am sticking to it.

Lets go back and have a look at windows track record.

Every OS they bring out is a massive big failure (at the start anyway, beware) . Remember XP when that came out.....Oh my god!!........oh oh oh, and, and.....remember VISTA Jesus H christ!!!! what a train wreck that was......HA HA.

I am gunna wait a bit, and stay with 7 more train wreck stories coming, you can almost guarentee it.

As a Christian who follows the teachings of Jesus Christ, using his name as a curse word is quite offensive to me.

I ran the preview version for a few weeks but there was nothing in it that would make me switch over from W7.

I'd imagine for tablet/touch devices it will be very good but it offers nothing new to the desktop user.

Install Windows 7 on a Virtual Machine and keep both.

I learnt this lesson back in the days of Windows 98.

Never ever upgrade to the new version of Windows until it has been on the market for at least a few months to a year.

Who wants to be Windows guinea pig? Not me!

If most people had done that with Windows Vista then majority of people who never have installed Windows Vista because it was very buggy.

Yeah Windows 7 is much better than 8. We use Windows 7 in our classrooms at college. I was surprised they weren't using XP... seems like all of the major corporations out here are still using it in their business.

If you do get stuck with Windows 8, install this: Welcome to Classic Shell

It'll bring back Windows XP or Windows 7 start menu.

I also use it on Windows 7, to get Windows XP cascading style start menu.

Also, if you think about it with Windows 8, instead of having a start menu like on all other versions of Windows, now it is a start page, with the desktop on another page. I'm not going to upgrade, but I bet it is easier to get used to than some are going on about.

    Yeh, install Win 7!

I always leave it a couple of years until some of the crap and glitches are ironed out of these new releases. Frankly, I'd run '95 if it supported broadband.

I detested Windows 8. I had massive compatibility issues (not to mention activation issues) and just downgraded back to Windows 7. I will try Windows 8 again in like 6-12 months when driver software is more readily available.

I have to say though, it's pretty pathetic for some companies to not have a Windows 8 compatible software out. How long has Consumer Preview been out for? Not even Apple has iTunes compatible for Windows 8!!

Win8 is totaly not worth upgrading from win7, though used it on touch screen pc, still programs runs slower on win8, though they claimed the improvement in speed. Downgraded back to win7

Windows 8 is good for touch screen stuffs.

I would still use windows 7, it is much more faster and compatible in any software.

But I'm open to use windows 8 in the future when they fix the bugs on the software.

I was reading a review on cnet and came across this-

If you're a veteran Windows user, the new Start Screen will definitely take some getting used to. But the familiar Windows desktop of yore remains, and is easily accessible as a tile (just like any other app) on the Start Screen.
I am not using Windows 8, so can't speak from experience. You can read the article here - Windows 8 review: A big, beautiful, slightly shaky step forward - CNN.com , if it helps.

The Metro screen is for more of a casual user. (I was part of the team that designed it in 2008. Yes, before there WAS such a thing as an iPad.) Serious workflow still needs the desktop, so yes, you can get there.

In the lower left corner of the Metro screen there is a button labeled "Desktop." Click it. The desktop looks and works the same as always. You can also press Windows+D to do this.

You do not have a "Start" button anymore. Move your mouse to the lower right corner of the screen to pop up a menu which includes your "start" menu and other useful things. Power options (shutdown, restart, etc.) are under "Settings" there.

There are a great many new keyboard shortcuts to get to things.

    Win+Q - Apps
    Win+W - Search
    Win+E - Explorer
    Win+R - Run
    Win+T - Task switcher
Win+U - Ease of Access Center
    Win+I - Settings
    Win+P - Projector
    Win+D - Show Desktop
    Win+F - Files
    Win+H - Sharing Center
    Win+K - Send
    Win+L - Lock workstation
    Win+X - Admin menu
    Win+C - Start bar
    Win+M - Minimise program

If you have Microsoft OneNote installed, you also get Win+N for a sticky note and Win+S for a screen clipping.

There's a learning curve, but you'll get used to it.

Guys, thanks for your responses & tips
This morning I called microsoft, they said that they can send me the win7 dvd so that I can install it on my machine while overwriting win8 completely :-)
After the installation I will have to call them and make the activation over the phone.
    Thanks G-od!
