Monetizing an Issues Based Niche
I've had this little blog that I have hardly used (and a facebook fanpage) set up for a couple of years. The blog gets little traffic, but the facebook fanpage has around 2500 likes and I believe I could bump up that number pretty quickly if I put in a little more effort. I also think I could expand this into twitter followers and an email list fairly easily.
The issue is that the niche doesn't exactly fit into the traditional marketing categories; i.e. pain, success, ect. It's actually on "climate change/and climate change laws". My initial target audience was environmental attorneys, but the facebook site is now largely comprised of just general enviro "greeny" folks. I would love to expand this since it's a subject I'm interested in.
However, I am interested in finding an effective way to both actively engage with a potential list and monetize it to a certain degree without just trying to sell to the list all the time. Besides selling books ect. I can't really think of an effective way to set it up.
Would love ideas on places to look for engaging and monetizing an issues based niche. If you've got a political comment about eviro issues lets save it for another discussion. Thanks everyone!!
