Hey, I've used both before but noticed most people seem to be following the wordpress way nowadays. Wordpress is extremely user friendly but I kind of like building my own site through Kompozer better. Am I wrong for that and which method do you prefer?

I've used Kompozer too. It's easy enough. But I've started taking a look at Optimize Press as a wordpress theme, and I quite like that too.

It depends on you on what you like Tim. If you want wordpress then do it, if you want to build it from scratch then do it. For me, I prefer wordpress coz I don't know how build websites from scratch.

I prefer hand-built sites with a blog on the side for the best of both worlds. I use Notepad to build sites.

I've used the code side of Dreamweaver (used to be CF studio) for years now.
I do all of my programming (php, js, etc..) in it also. Your code is much cleaner, or should be, when hand coded. I don't like wysiwyg editors if the client wants top onsite SEO.

But I am a firm believer in not reinventing the wheel, so WP has its place and works well for a CMS. Hooking into the system with other systems is fairly easy also.
WP has done a hell of a job with their system and have come a long way since they began.

Kompozer with plain html is perfectly fine for static pages. Examples are squeeze pages and sites with only a few pages that do not need to be updated. For such sites, plain html is good, it also loads faster.

I have a strong background in HTML, CSS and PHP, but I still prefer Wordpress for my IM sites. It's just quicker to setup and run.

There's no right/wrong/best way of building a site. It all depends on what you are trying to do.

I build sites using WordPress and handing coded HTML sites.
