How to tell if site visitors have come via a redirect?

This is hurting my brain. money.aol.co.uk have run a story that includes a reference to one of my sites (not a link), except that they quoted the site wrongly, putting .com instead of .co.uk

I've just purchased the .com version and redirected it.

The question is - can you think of a way for me to tell whether any of the visitors have come via the redirect? In other words, can I tell how many people typed in (or copied and pasted) the .com site?

Thanks

  • Surely any traffic going through the .com will be recorded on your server (aw stats for example).

I cant believe you didnt already have the .com though, you left yourself wide open, luckily it was still available!

The .com version isn't hosted, it's just a redirect from namecheap, so awstats won't see it. Or will it? Do you mean the info should be recorded on the awstats for the .co.uk site?

Yep. In the Awstats for the .co.uk site, it will show how many visitors came from the .com site (look under 'Connect to site from').
