Wordpress, Hostgator, & Ads

I am a bit confused about all this at this point. I created my first blog on Wordpress and want to be able to put affiliate links and affiliate banners on it, but I just read that I could be penalized for this and have site taken down by wordpress. Then I saw if you host your own site it's okay. I set my site up through hostgator cPanel with fantastico, set up wordpress and created my blog. Can I have ads on my blog site? Any feedback would help.

If you host your WordPress blog on your own web host (in your case, Hostgator), then you shouldn't have problem.

If you do that at wordpress.com (meaning wordpress.com hosting your blog), then yes, they can be restrictive.

    Hope that make sense,
    Mike

Yes if your hosting it at a hosting provider (Hostgator) in your case. Then you are free to do what you want with your blog. The restrictions are only if your hosting it with wordpress. Such as bloghere.wordpress.org

Better don't comment if you don't have the knowledge!
There is no website hosted on wordpress.ORG. Ever.

What you wanted to say was wordpress.COM!

Just remember, there are ways to have your site taken down still, so be sure to include disclaimers on your site.

Don't steal images off the internet, don't create duplicate content (stealing content), and make sure to be real with people.

If you do steal things, it's possible for someone to simply send your hosting provider a DMCA notice which could then turn into your site being taken down by the hosting provider, so just be cautious.

Good luck and make some money!

        hie guys!!

I have a wordpress site hosted by GoDaddy.com. Everytime I put an affiliate link on a word or a picture or banner, they disappear when I preview/publish the post. What could be the issue here?

        please help

When you view the HTML before publishing, is the link code in it? GoDaddy wouldn't be restricting something like that so it's most likely that you're just not adding it correctly or possibly saving instead of publishing.

I use straight HTML to create my web pages. Please remember that you are using mysql database in word press. OK so mysql is a major HOG on resources. Well, as soon as you start to get a tiny bit of traffic, you are shut down by the big web hosting companies. They claim - excessive resource use.

Ya since you have your own domain and wordpress installed you just go to the appearance tab and add in the banner or ad code wherever you want it...

If it's installed on your own host and not through Wordpress.com then you'll be fine. The only thing you need to worry about is abiding by their terms and conditions so you can't display an ads on your site that they don't allow. Hostgator are pretty lenient so you should be fine.
