I could use some feed-back....

Hi all, first off, I'm completely fascinated and excited about the concept of Internet Marketing, and I'm going to stick with it for the long haul because it's exactly the kind of side-business I've been looking for, and the potential is just too great to give up on. I've been learning a TON here, as everyone does, and I have been trying to implement what I've learned on my first self-hosted website, but I'm not feeling confident I'm going about it the right way.

The niche I picked is a specific line of products by one manufacturer that receives 10k searches a month and has 93k+ sites. I'm seeing single digit traffic per day despite creating a number of keyword anchored backlinks recently. I've written a couple of articles that don't seem to have done much good. My site's currently on page 8 for my targeted keywords, and I'm wondering what I can do to get it on page one, assuming that's the ultimate goal, or if I should just bag it and start over with a different niche.

If there are any "Gurus" out there that would be willing to evaluate what I've done so far, right and wrong, and provide some next-steps to put me in the right direction, it would be hugely appreciated. Obviously since this is my first effort I've been spending a ton of time just learning and researching, so subsequent efforts will be that much quicker and easier, but I'm getting the feeling I'm spinning my wheels right now and not working "smart" enough. If anyone is willing to give me a little help and direction, please PM me. And thanks to all! -Jon

The biggest thing of all is to not be discouraged. You're lucky that you can look at it as a side business, as most people think they'll replace their full time income with IM in a matter of weeks. Just stick with it, learn what you can from your mistakes, and take this piece of advice as far as you can: Pay less attention to what others are doing, and more attention to what you're doing yourself. I live by that mantra. Outside the box, ahead of the curve is where you always want to be, and if you're watching someone else, you're in their box, and even worse, you're behind the curve. Hope that helps, and good luck!

you have the right idea about getting anchored links, it does take time, though...

with only a few articles it is hard to tell, article marketing is at least a one a day task.

it can take weeks or months to get on the top 3 of google depending on many things

it depends on how many backlinks the top results have now, and how well it is optimized.

it is way to early to "bag the niche" as you say there are so many factors to look at and you should do absolutley every thing you can before you give up on a niche, I have gotten at least one sale in every niche, not saying I haven't lost money on a niche before

but you do have to stick it out for a while

Jason, That's great advice. I still can't stop shaking the thought that if I just tweaked a couple things here or there, I'd be making money faster. That's why it's tough not to try and emulate what others are doing that are making money. I feel like there's the perfect time-tested system out there that's easy to do part-time to bring in some extra cash with serious growth potential.

I guess I'm not sure where to go from here. Again, if anyone is willing to help me one-on-one, I would be psyched.

Thanks a lot jennifer. yeah I researched about 30 long tails. I'll start working those as well. You meant 300-1000 searches a month, right?
