Authority sites you can and cannot outrank?

Hey guys,

I was wondering as a point of reference which authority sites on a the first page of Google that you would be sure of that you could not outrank?

Specifically, how hard would it be to outrank a huffingtonpost article or similiar sites along those lines?

Thanks

In the eyes of SEs, "authority sites" are few and changeable.
You can outrank Wikipedia, YahooAnswers and likes. I've seen many examples of that happening.
In general, the narrower the k'word phrase you're trying to rank for, the greater your chance to rank #1.

Google ranks pages not sites. So long as your page has
    Better content.
    Better on-page SEO
    Better off-page SEO
    And a better user experience.

There is no reason you can not outrank any page. There are a few more ranking factors I have left out. But you get the idea.

You need to make your site become a high authority site by regularly provide high quality contents and acquiring backlinks from other high authority sites. Once your site become the high authority site, you have chance to outrank.

This effort definitely needs months. Be persistent and consistent!
