Is Twitter The Real Deal Or What?

Ok, I have to admit I was slow to see the potential with twitter. I registered last May but did not get serious with it until November. Since then I have gained over 26,000 followers! Now days, the majority of all my new leads and sales for my marketing site come from twitter.

Best of all, you can use twitter tp market really huge areas that normally would not be "doable" with SEO for example. It is possible to build a very large following of fairly targeted users.

If you are not using it now, be aware it may take some time for you to "see the light" with it (like it did me). But trust me, if twitter matches your marketing style, it can GREATLY benefit your business!

I registered a couple of months ago with twitter but not really used it for marketing - need to really look into Twitter and try to use it to my advantage - do you have any tips Steve?

Also what is your twitter id?

      Hi Elaine,

      My twitter ID is @steveweber

I sell a product called TwitterBlast showing how I got the followers. But if you DM me on twitter I'll give you plenty of free advice....just don't want to give away the kitchen sink to the world...but I do help those who contact me there.

      ....hope to see you there!

Haha, funny I should see you here posting this. I discovered you through Twitter a while back and last night made a (non aff) recommendation of your website to somebody that was interested in the kind of things you talk about there.

    So yes, it works!

Oh, another thing... Over half of all Twitter users are over 35!

You know what that means for marketers compared to the FaceBook crowd?

Twellow can be used for targeting. They are very responsive to adding new categories too if you can't find your niche category. I asked if they could make a category for us Smart car owners and they emailed me the next day and said that they did. Twellow.com

Steve - thanks for the info....

I wonder if you think selling a book about Twitter and Twitter list building makes your follower list more responsive and valuable? ... another words are there examples you know of marketers selling NON-Twitter stuff that do well?

I've never even explored Twitter but i guess I just assumed it would be random non-responsive traffic for most offers.

I've been trying to build my follower list. I'm late to the show, but I seems with some concerted effort you can get a good following. The ability to use your cell phone is very attractive to tweeters. I keep forgetting that I have a profile though. I just need to build it into my routine.

Hi Bruce...Any niche can work! I have a client in the weighloss area doing very well.. ...it's not "random" and non-responsive traffic. You simply have to know how to build a list of good followers interested in what you have to offer. It really is the real deal...I was skeptical at first too.

      Bruce,

To answer your question Tiff Dow has had a lot of success I believe using Twitter. She has one Twitter related ebook but I pretty sure that came along after she had had success on there so yes it does work outside that marketplace.

I've had a lot of success with it myself in non-IM related niches as well, it's all about building up relationships.

Hi Sam, It's all about building relationships with like minded people. Just treat it like a mini blog at first while you are building a targeted following...

    • If you join Twitter, we'd recommend that you avoid a few common marketing pitfalls:

      • Try to avoid being just a "broadcaster" who sends out nothing but links to their website or blog. The more you interact with others, the more likely their friends and followers are to discover you -- and that's the best way to extend your market!
      • Also try not to be a "followfiend" who adds thousands of friends, and then unfollows everyone once a portion follow him back. These people are attempting to look more "popular" by capitalizing on those who follow back automatically, and increasing their "followed by" ratio over their "following". If you're going to follow someone, stick around to learn from them!
      • Automate your account as little as possible. Yes, you're short on time, but automatic follow-backs cause the problem above. And automatic DMs only engender good will a portion of the time... otherwise, they are disregarded as spam. The point of social networking is to be social... so send personal messages instead!

Everyone spamming there and merely "following" for the sake of following so they have more followers, no one really looks into what each ones saying.

Twitter is not for me, stagnated and "non producing

      Galactus,

While there people that are like that on Twitter, there are plenty more who aren't. It's about building relationships not spamming. Anyone who goes out of their way to use it correctly will find success in my opinion as Steve has proven with his success.

Like any other tool it's about how it's used.

I am still trying to understand how twitter works, and how it helps us. I have an account with about 25 followers, but really do not know how to make it work for me and my buisness.

Could someone please share more information on how this works?

    Hello Fellow Twitters!

Today is my first time doing this. I'm used to Facebook, but I'm having a hard time seeing the potential of Twitter. It feels like I'm missing something. With Squidoo, I can create lenses which could be directed to my writing or affiliate products. With Facebook, there are loads of interactive capabilities. But Twitter seems a bit limited. Again, what am I missing?

Thanks!!! And congrats on all of your successes!!!

    Warmest regards,
    Helena

You can tweet links to your website - I just tweeted "Online Reputation Management" and then put a link to a post on my website, where I'd written about online reputation management tools. This drives a LOT of targeted traffic to your website. My website is a PR3, and I really give Twitter most of the credit.

I write press releases, and I get almost all of my clients from Twitter. I've had days where I've gotten $1500 worth of orders from Twitter. I have friends who are graphic designers who get a lot of sales from Twitter. Justin Jordan mentioned recently in a thread that he got orders for about $1000 worth of writing services by posting on Twitter.

The key: have a good website set up with samples of your work, post useful content on your website, link to the content - but don't JUST tweet links...engage in conversation with people on Twitter as well.

I created a Twitter account around August 2008, but used it solely for interacting with people I knew online through message boards and what not. A couple months ago, when I got back into freelance writing, I began to add other writers. I am also trying to add those who may need my writing services, as I know quite a few people who have landed clients off of Twitter.

    Feel free to add me!

I love twitter. It's not really just about the traffic or the sales you get from it. It's about building different social relationships despite the enormous distance. I really appreciate it when people comment and react on your tweets. You get to see different perspective you never thought existed!

Correct, it's not JUST about getting sales and leads. Twitter is a powerful resource tool I use all the time. With the numbers of followers I have, I can get instant advice or help with virtually any problem or issue. Plus, I've made many profitable and beneficial business relationships. The benefits of twitter are quite similar in many ways to those enjoyed with forum participation.

It's easy to gain followers. Getting targeted users is another thing.

How does one of your typical "marketing" tweet look like?

My favorite type of "marketing" is to tweet about a blog post or article on my site. That way I get them to my site but it's not a blatant attempt to sell something.

I also have great success tweeting about free stuff on my site. ..free videos, downloads, etc.
