Classified Ad Split Tests

Hi,

I am trying to figure out which variables I should be concerned about when split testing classified ads. Should it be the keywords, the headline, or the ad copy? Please advise.

Thanks.

The simple answer is yes to all of them.

The thing to keep in mind that there is an order that you need to look at things. For example it makes no sense to work on your headlines if your keywords doesn't attract readers and no sense to work on your ad copy if your headlines don't grab your readers because they will never read your ad copy.

If it were me I'd split test in the following order, keywords, headline, copy. I'd spend about 20% of my time working keywords, 50% on the headline and the remaining on the copy.

Remember to change only one thing at a time and make sure that you have enough traffic to get a good test, at least 100 hits in my opinion.

  • The best thing to split test would be the offer! What's the offer? Is it converting?

    Let's get this thread going!

I've created an ebook for a highly-targeted niche, however, this particular niche (IMO) doesn't use computers/the internet for information-search; they use classified ads in circulars/weeklies (plug nickel, american classifieds, etc) so I believe a squeeze linked to opt-in, OTO, etc., will be ignored and/or a waste of time.

Surely there are some old-school direct mail gunslingers on this forum...advice?
