Are there any worthwhile alternatives to YouTube?

I know there are plenty of other video sharing sites but do any of them have much merit? Your opinion.

    David,

It depends on how you want to use the video and how you want to be perceived by your audience.

For example, there are some people who say viewers take Vimeo videos more seriously than Youtube ones.

P.S. Blip.tv is banned in Turkey and has been banned on and off in China (and maybe other countries). At the moment (after a 2 year ban) Youtube is available in Turkey. That could be a consideration for some people as well.

    Had some traction with metacafe.

They have a big review panel who sometimes will look at you video within hours, so you can add 1000's of views fast, but you need good content.

Plenty of alternatives but youtube gets most of the traffic, so stick with it till you master the art of video marketing.

There are a lot of video free hosted sites on the internet. However, Youtube is enough to get good exposure in generating traffic and making money.

Video sites that could be very interesting in the future are the mobile live stream sites such as qik and ustream. I think the "live" broadcast feature is an interesting twist, along w/ the vid being archived.

Interesting points, thanks. Qik and ustream will be worth following to see how they develop. Mobile Internet is sure to be innovative and dynamic in its approach to sharing video content. Bring it on!

Sure, there's break, vimeo, daily motion, google video. If you try them out and get comfortable with the sites then you'll find traffic there.

Suprisingly enough, google seems to LOVE youtube.

And I look at all the other video sites like more of a distraction. If you want your video to have more than 43 views, use youtube. Thats my advice.

On occasion, I have seen vimeo videos ranking on the first page of google for specific terms. I cannot say the same for other video sharing sites, so I think if I had to choose one it would be vimeo.
