Traffic: Quality not quantity.

I see a lot on posts on here asking 'how do I increase traffic' 'where can I buy traffic'.

In the last few days I thought, I'm really going for it; Facebook, Twitter etc., and I basically doubled my site traffic. Net result? Almost no more on site sales.

The lesson here (for me anyway) is; I'd rather have 200 uniques per day who have found me organically. and are therefore pretty close to what I'm offering, than 500 hits just because I posted something unusual/funny.

These extra hits aren't free of course (in terms of time). I'm sticking to SEO and the core work I was doing in future.

My advice to anyone who wants to see that Analytics spike higher is concentrate on people who are likely to buy from you, not numbers.

Just thought I'd give my input.

Brian.

Well you see, the common misconception on here that the perfect business model is through buying Fiverr gigs that promise to increase your traffic or other bogus SEO/Traffic programs. Then the same people wonder why their sales aren't increasing or they're not seeing the results they desired.

This doesn't just go for traffic services, this goes for all areas of the internet marketing or online industry. If you want results, you're going to have to produce quality content, target quality prospects and obtain quality traffic. It really is all about quality. Some day, some day more people will understand, or maybe not. Perhaps it's better that way that a majority of people think that way and then it's less competition for people who do understand how the system works

I definitely agree that targeted traffic is the only traffic that you should strive for.. but I think diversification is an important factor to consider as well. Sticking to just one traffic source is great, but what's even better is having traffic coming from all over the internet.

Well said and I am with you. I do however remember a day when I found this site that sold me like 10,000,000 viewers for like $120, and I just sat back all proud of myself waiting for it all to come in so on Friday I could tell my boss to beat it. Ha ha ha ha ha. I was so heart broken. That is when I decided to actually use the resources here at the forum to learn the different types of traffic and why they exist. Wow that was so long ago.

  • Maybe you should have both? Numerous quality posts. Also, sometimes we should just wait a little longer to see the results because we cannot predict how will it go in the future. We should just do what we think that would help us get a good traffic.

Really good post. Thanks for that. Truly said about the traffic. Another thing you would say is that, many of the traffic that actually converts to potential customer works from word of mouth and from referral from friends and many offline marketing techniques. As the quality matters then it is very important that we get the right type of traffic and that can be achieved via, simply going out and talking to people and referring to the business site. If you can serve those people who are local to you then slowly with this local quality traffic you can easily move on to national traffic via advertisement ( flyers, leaflets, new ads, simple function sponsorship ) and slowly get international audience.

Correct me if I am wrong. Most of the quality traffic comes from word of mouth as it is one of the most powerful tactic.

Literally no one on this forum understands this.

Except for the real business owners. But yeah, quality of traffic is all that matters.

I'd rather have 100 visitors and 10 sales daily, than 100,000 visitors and no sales daily

I totally agree it is harder to find traffic that is ready and willing to buy. Well, i take that back, it is harder it is more fulfilling but it takes longer to find real traffic of people who want to buy what you have.
But sometime traffic can increase your money through CPA! you can make a lot of money if you have good adverts due to traffic, the more the cashier!!!!!!!!!

First off, congratulations on doubling the traffic to your site. Alot of people never learn how to do this, so give yourself a pat on the back.

The lesson here (for me anyway) is; I'd rather have 200 uniques per day who have found me organically. and are therefore pretty close to what I'm offering, than 500 hits just because I posted something unusual/funny.
Maybe the problem was not the goal (driving more traffic from other sources beside SEO), but in the way that you implemented that goal.

Instead of giving up and just going back to SEO, what you should be thinking is "Ok, I just doubled the traffic to my site. Sure it wasn't targeted. But... how can I do the same thing, double the traffic to my site, but this time send targeted traffic?"

That's what I would be thinking. So don't give up after only 1 try. Test out other strategies, and other options.

Maybe you can setup a group that gives "tips" on your niche. and take your time to build up to it, and then once a month or once a week send out a post to this group about your product that you are promoting.

This would allow you to still get that possible "doubling of traffic" but it would be more "targeted traffic"

My advice to anyone who wants to see that Analytics spike higher is concentrate on people who are likely to buy from you, not numbers.
Again good advice, so follow it, and ask yourself, "how can I still get this same analytic spike, but from people who are more likely to buy from me?"

and "Where can I find people who are more likely to buy from me?"

and "How can I set things up so when I do drive these people who are more likely to buy from me to my site that they are finding a product that is relevant to what they want and are looking for and they make the purchase?"

Again congrats on doubling your traffic buddy. Keep it going.

I is the quality of traffic. I learned the hard way, but if you get quality visitors to build a list with you, there can be great results to come ahead. I do not buy visitors much, I rather use my blog and forums to get visitors.

SEO will always beat out facebook/social media traffic when it comes to quality. Unless you're just trying for brand awareness.

If you opened a store and said "free candy to any one who walks in" you definitely would get more visitors, but if you didn't have anything they needed you wouldn't make any money. You just have to have a market that has proven to buy.

Brand awareness is the key point I would be making. And brand development. You need a bit of the 'junk' friends, followers and visitors in order to make your sites look somewhat popular. Take for instance, social media. It may be a sad fact, but alot of people are inclined to follow and connect with accounts that look popular, going by the numbers and stats listed on the account. Sometimes you do have to build the 'buzz' a bit in order to generate further excitement and online impetus. Never forget that a certain amount of any business dealings will employ clever tricks of the trade in order to bolster profit margins. Persuasion and subtle manipulation are oftentimes just part of the game. Quantity can sometimes lead to a long-term quality of brand building, so don't be too rigid in your marketing outlook. That's my honest opinion.
