Any tips on how to find a mentor?

Hi everyone.

I'm curious if there's anyone here with any quick tips on how to find an Internet Marketing mentor? I've discovered I'm wasting too much time jumping from idea to idea, and I'd love to have someone who can, for just a short period, sit me down and show me what I'm doing wrong and what I need to change.

I know there are offers on the WSO forum, but sometimes I question their legitimacy. Is there anyone on this forum who learned from a mentor, and if so, how did you get paired up with him or her?

Thanks!

    Hi there!

When I first started in IM i was working with an investment bank, and my colleague was making some extra money outside of work, which he one day agreed to show me.. so he was kind of my mentor (until i caught up ;-) ) !

But I understand that our minds are very volatile in the sense that we keep changing ideas!

I think that once you commit yourself to one method, and stick to it, you dont really need to pay for a mentor! the warrior forum is like a mentor in itself! If you find any bespoke mentoring, I advise to contact them individually and weigh them out!

    Hope that helped,

    Take Care!

I would say you're on the right track. Ask around and see if you can find some people who have successfully worked with a mentor. If you hear the same mentor's name mentioned 3-4 times, that person is probably a pretty safe bet.

The other thing I would say is to make sure that your mentor has actually made a lot of money online. If they haven't, well... you probably don't want to be taking a whole lot of advice from them.

    Hi C.B.

Eric Louviere have an awesome coaching program. You get all this crazy hand holding, access to software, video based training, coaching, you name it.

    Here's the link...
    Signature Mastermind (NO Aff. Link)

Call the phone number at the site and you can talk to someone live to get your questions answered. Even if you can only afford just one month of the coaching it will be money very well spent!

If this is too much for you right now, take a look at Job Crusher -

Membership maybe closed now but that will get you started so get on the waiting list. Just a few weeks ago we had Mike Filsaime to ourselves LIVE to ask questions.

    Good luck!

    Dennis

I would say become someone people want to mentor and they will find you.

'Cause if you announce to the world you've got $3k and want to be mentored you're gonna have every fly-by-night, never-made-a-buck-online "mentor" chasing you down like a rabid dog.

And even if they do catch you... and... even if you do cough up the dough... there's still a 80% likelihood that whatever they tell you to do (no matter how "right") won't overcome your own internal issues which are holding you back right now.

I was listening to an interview last night with a guy who is being mentored by a few of the biggest names in IM. He doesn't pay them a cent. They invite him to their homes. He's masterminding, networking and JV'ing with all of them.

    How did he do it?

He bought their programs, implemented the advice, came to them with the results and said "what's next."

I think this is a great place to get recommendations for mentors. As you know there are numerous "mentors" with varying degrees of knowledge. Pick the level you're looking for and get warrior opinions. Use their name specifically in the forum and you'll get specific feedback. Good luck.

I am only a $1 () from my first million, so I am not sure if I qualify to mentor anybody, but I do know a thing or two about setting up a website, driving traffic to it and making sales. If you want I can give you some tips and advice for FREE. I am sure there are other people in this forum who would be willing to help you out without charging a fee. Just ask around.

    Hope this helps

C.B. take this for what it's worth to you. I am speaking from experience.

I have mentored quite a few people.

Most don't put in the effort to make things work.

The ones that did, honestly, they didn't need me in the first place.

They had the intestinal fortitude and enough of a head on their shoulders
to take a few basic instructions and run with them. For many of these,
after just a few days, I cut them loose and said, you can do this yourself.
      You don't need me anymore.

What I am trying to say is this.

The basic instruction that you, or anyone needs to be successful online, is
out there...much of it for free or for very little money.

All you need to do is read it, understand it and apply it.

Start with a good business planning course because that's really where it
all starts. Once you have a solid foundation, the rest is just filling in the
      bits and pieces.

And no amount of mentoring is going to do that for you unless you really
have what it takes to begin with.

I have found this, not only from my own experience helping others, but
from my own experience of learning on my own.

The few mentoring sessions I had with those above me on the food chain
really did nothing more than point me in a few directions. I picked up the
ball and ran with it from there. Truth is, if I simply took the time to do a
little research, I would have found the same info for nothing.

Mentoring, coaching, whatever you want to call it, is just a shortcut
      crutch to lean on.

If you're short on time and have tons of cash to spend, then fine. Go take
the shortcut. Just make sure it's with somebody with real verifiable
credentials and expert in the area you need help with.

If you have lots of time and don't have much cash...do it yourself.

If you believe in your ability and really put in the time and effort, you can
      do it.

      All by yourself.

      Hi havplenty,

I'm in the same situation as C.B.Stewart.

I'm new to I.M. and my first three months have left me confused and not knowing where to turn next. I have analysis paralysis in a big way.

Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated,

      regards

  • I took this approach: I publicly announced here that I wasn't looking for a mentor, freebies or "stroking". Instead, I made posts that described the steps I was taking, including all the mistakes.

I got freebies, mentoring and lots of strokes. That's because I made it easy to see that I had the one ingredient necessary for becoming successful: continuous effort. Plus, I changed what I did as I learned from my mistakes. In other words, I wasn't totally hopeless.

Show that you're in this for the long haul. Apply continuous effort. Learn from your mistakes. Make a business plan.

Uh, that should be a good start...

Seriously, Joshua, You signed up Today and the reason you did was to Help other

The information available in this thread is amazing.

For all other newbies: what you should get out of this is that, as long as you make a concerted effort, others will notice and will help you to succeed. (I'll admit I haven't made the "concerted effort" yet, but I'm on my way.)

Read, and then re-read, what Kyle, Steven, and Vince posted. Those are three valuable lessons I needed. Bottom line: work hard, and you'll be rewarded in more ways than one.

To all those who offered their services: you are amazing and I'll be in contact very soon.

I have just read Glenn Leader's blog about his game of Monopoly. The lesson he illustrates is one for all of us to follow as well as helping to answer the question on how to find a mentor.
What I am getting to is to read other Warrior's blogs and learn from what they write. Also, pay attention to the comments. If there are no comments at the foot of the blog it probably means that either the blog/ writer is not widely known (in which case consider ignoring the advice) or the comments have been deleted because they refer to BS in the article.
    Hope this helps.
    All the best,

When comes to IM, everyone is hoping for an easy way out. I always remember when I first started out with my upline teaching me. He says: I am here to teach you how to fish and not feeling you with the fish. With these words, I understand that we are supposed to learn IM and replicate the same success as what he did instead of re-inventing the wheel of success. He has all the necessary steps and info, all I need is to follow them to replicate the same success.

You are lucky to find yourself in Warrior Forum as it has the best people around that can help you. Read and learn from the subjects, soon you will be able to pick your best choice of IM for yourself.

Focus on what you want to do and TAKE ACTION. I have come across too many times, people just watch and sit on the fence while others have actions and succeed. Don't worry too much about failures as it will help you to be one step away from success. Remember when you were a baby, learning how to crawl and walk. You may fall while learning how to walk, but you will start up again after each fall and walk. Look for a good product that you want to promote and who knows, that person may be your mentor (if you are selling affiliate products).

hi, I've been using Frank Garon as a mentor from internet cash planet and he's been really good for me.

I agree with a lot of the comments above and would say that its fine having a plan but sometimes you just need somebody you can ring, email or skype to say - hey, i'm having a problem with this, can you help?

Being able to have access to this for me is great - and the long-term rewards are buildig up a relationship with somebody who helps you to help yourself.

Basically you don't really need one mentor all you need to have is your time to know what are the ways on how to earn money online. And your perseverance to achieve your goal in aiming your business type.

I recommend reviewing what comes to your attention regularly - i.e. whose articles do you find interesting and run across a lot of times? Whose products / services?

Then seek out the domains of the authors and sellers and see if they offer mentoring or can offer suggestions. That way you find someone in your field of interests.
