Authority & Multiple Sites

I have a very large health website that is definitely an authority website. I use the rel tags to attribute my posts to my Google+ authorship and all that. Recently I purchased three more 3 or 4 year old websites also in the health niche, but each is more focused on a particular niche.

Should I use my current authority and attach it to these sites, or should I create a new persona for each niche and work to build it up as an authority?

One part of me says, having niche expertise and the general health expertise would lift all the sites quicker (sharing my current authority). The other side thinks in the long run multiple separate authority sites might have more value.

Any opinions?

    I'd keep the other domains and create a global footer on the big health site linking to the two sites you just purchased. Global meaning this footer is on all pages on the big health site so you get a bunch of links to the other sites. This should help their ranking.

      I would only do this if the small niche sites are of equally good quality as the OPs bigger site otherwise it can harm the reputation of the authority site.
