People Now Selling YouTube Channels. Would You buy?

So, it came across to me the other day ..........

People are now selling their YouTube channels that are generating profit.

Would you buy a YouTube channel earning $500-$2000 per month ?

And I ask this as a serious question because a wave is likely to come soon.

My answer and thoughts on the matter:
I might buy a YouTube channel of a user who's successful and fueled by their own image/self-focused videos. As long as I also received ownership of commercial rights to User's videos, it's an easy flip and if they continue to grow in any way, you can likely re-sell the footage to other networks like Break.com/webuyvideos and if popular enough, possibly a TMZ. I'd make sure I got all the videos original files sent to me on a Hard Drive as well.

What I would Not buy and a forewarning to some Warriors........... Channels that have content obviously impossible for the seller to have commercial rights. To get that channel shut down, all it takes is 1 warning / flag from a user. If a media company, which owns footage contacts YouTube, not even a guess of if you're going down.. YOU WILL GO DOWN. Also, I see no greater value beyond what's earned on YouTube.

Without saying too much, would love to hear others opinons.

*Thanks.*

    I wouldn't do it either...

To my knowledge, it is against YouTube's TOS... And you don't want to lose your money buying something that cannot legally be sold...

Yeah, if this becomes more prominent Youtube will be all over it and will start deleting any channels they see being sold.

I would steer well clear. Why risk it when you can go to Flippa and buy a website you own outright that is generating the same sort of income.

    It`s far too risky

So be prepared to hear some horror stories over the next 12 months or so of some newbies that have bought youtube channels and then had the channel deleted a few days later

This is against Youtube's TOS. You are not allowed to sell channels.

So anyone who thinks that they are buying a cashflow stream are going to be in for a huge surprise once their channel gets banned/shut down.

not a good idea at all.

Technically and legally it can be done. However, the channel must be owned by a registered business entity and has approval from YT. Money talks......

I am involved in music industry. I will not be surprised that Vevo would sell their asset someday

Good Tips. Actually for me, I would not buy it for many reasons but to keep it short, I DON'T HAVE FULL CONTROL of YOUTUBE. Even the government OWNED channel that are promoting TOURISM was banned

If i was making $500-$2000 a month with Youtube... why not create 5 more channels like that on autopilot and live off of that income? Why sell them?

Ownership entails having to manage them, keep them up etc.

If you can cash out for some multiple of the monthly income stream,
and you'd prefer focusing on something else, why not? Many
businesses are built with an exit plan... otherwise you're just creating
      a job for yourself.

It really depends on the channel. The problem that I see is that no-one is going to really sell a youtube channel that is seriously earning them income, and is growing their business like Youtube can. It would have to be a channel they built to sell, and therefore would have lower quality.

Often it's easier to take over a profitable, proven business than to
build one from scratch. That's why big companies like Facebook and
Google buy small companies that they could easily build themselves.

You never know that a business that you build from scratch is going
to be profitable. If you take over one that is profitable and has a
nice steady income stream, it's often just less risky.

This has been happening for a long time. Purchased a few channels myself a while back. It's worth It If you know how to monetize It.

But now an days I stick to just paying channel owners to plop my links In their video descriptions, which Is a lot cheaper.

Also, Youtube would not be able to find out If you sold your channel :p Only way for them to do that Is to log IP's logging In, and even then everyone with a dynamic IP would be getting banned lol.

I would be very suspicious if someone was trying to sell me their YouTube channel and make a disclaimer that it brings an income between $500-$2000.

I don't know if this is against YouTube's policy but I would personally never sell a channel that brings me this type of income.

The person who is trying to sell you on this is probably lying to your face. I would for sure ignore them. They are probably not making any money and are fishing for people like you who are looking to make money online.

They take your money and at the end you will probably figure out that they lied to you.

    Stay away from it.

    Who say it's illegal..
    Read this:

DreamWorks said on Wednesday it will pay about $33 million in cash to acquire AwesomenessTV, with additional payments of up to $117 million if earnings targets are met in 2014 and 2015. The transaction is expected to be completed this month, it said.

AwesomenessTV is a network of 55,000 YouTube channels, with 14 million subscribers, that feature online talk shows, sketch comedy and scripted and reality series aimed at teens. It is among the original channels that Google Inc-owned YouTube helped bankroll over the past year and a half.

Google/YouTube has a vested interest in this network since they invested in it. If any entity can develop the content to fill channels, attract views, and bring in ad revenue on a large scale then of course Google will listen to them.

However, there is nothing illegal about selling off a channel, not sure why some here seem to speak about legalities when they do not apply. Any business has the prerogative to dictate policies/Tos for their business.

I would not pay for a channel knowing that it could be killed off without notice. Even if you put in language that you get a pro-rated discount from the seller if the channel is axed, good luck collecting on it.

You would have to approach Google and ask for permission to transfer the channel. Just because they let one network be sold, does not mean that channels that they have not invested in can do the same. They may very well be discussing how to deal with this issue presently since it is now in the news.

Risky job to buy youtube channel,
it is against youtube rules and if they find out, they will delete that channel.

Also why would someone be selling youtube channel, which generate such income, there must be something wrong with it,,

Why a person will sell a channel which is bringing him $500-$2000 per month. By selling such a channel, that person will not be able to earn much. This is a kind of scamming I think. You should better stay away from these kind of offers.

I would only consider "buying" a channel if I was the one approaching the owner... The reality is that there are people in Youtube with loads of subscribers and millions of views that do not have a clue on Internet Marketing... therefore they do not even monetise the channel.

Imagine if there was a channel - let's say in the weight loss niche - with 20 videos getting thousands of views a day and the owner is not monetising the channel... all we would do is add an affiliate link below each video to begin earning some passive income and/or building a list.

That would be a good channel to buy...

Yes I agree with you on that on flippa. But the concern here is on the YouTube channel,
In my own opinion it's just too risky to take. I own 5 youtube channels, bought 3 from teenagers who were not advertising. Makes handsome profits just setting up a landing page, and redict to clickbank products on the back end. Works killing in the make money or fitness niche for me.

Not gunna divulge too much more, but buying youtube vids jason moffat style has worked out very well for me. Just saying.

Well I tipped people the wave is coming.

If a major company did that, imagine the sharks that will come in now smelling money in the water.

I DEFINITELY agree on affiliate marketing. It makes a brand look cheesy however, so hard to mix that well but def possible.

And actually Youtube channels are probably more 'secure' than 50% of websites today.

Youtube has secured traffic and will remain secured in Google Search rankings. Takes A LOT for Youtube traffic to change but a website, takes 1 farm animal update.
