Are niche job boards still worth the effort?

Thinking of starting a niche job board in my field. Just wondering what your thoughts are on niche job boards these days. There are massive and sophisticated players in the market (like LinkedIn) that seem to be targeting every niche under the sun (which is likely their achilles heel being so large).

    I would start by building a community site (not initially a job board) then once you have traffic introduce the feature off the back of your new site.

    Because it's a REALLY hard task to get both employers and employees to be the first ones to populate an empty board. However getting them to come and view information or resources is much easier.
