Blog Commenting Tips - Driving Traffic

i love using Google Alerts for my list of 20 primary comment blogs. Makes it super easy to get notified and decide if I will go comment or not.

There are too many spamming comments to my blogs, and I often have no time to check them one by one, and will delete them all some day.

So I just wonder if it is worth the time to post comments on others' blogs.

It's all about delivering value in your comment, not spamming!

People won't click on your name (your link) if you do not right an insightful comment; also, they probably won't approve your comment if it is too generic.

If you're going after traffic (and not backlinks) just set up Google Alerts to notify you of new posts that include your niche keywords. If you stumble across a popular blog and get your comment approved you can see a pretty nice surge of traffic.

If you've got Scrapebox you can take this to the next level by importing hundreds (even thousands) of niche-related keywords and having it only display results from the past 24 hours. You can then check the PR of the blogs, Alexa rankings, etc, to help identify potentially high traffic blogs.

All of that said, make sure you're leaving GOOD comments that you'd approve on your own blogs. I always stop and think to myself "Would I approve this on my own blog?" before pressing the post button.

Blog commenting is also a wonderful way to build positively sustainable online relationships and trust, while building up your organic traffic :-)

The Quality of the comments has a big say in driving traffic back to our sites. Just a plain reply of thanking for sharing or any other similar things won't help much to get noticed by those site visitors.

Adding Interesting and valuable add on comments to that particular blog posts holds the real key.

Spammy comments will not get you anywhere. So before you decide to put your link on it, make sure that you are giving out some relevant comments first.

Make sure the comment that you make has relevance to what the blog post is all about. Spam comments get deleted on popular blogs where the webmaster is active with the commenting. Good advice tho.

Some good "old hat" tips here. As long as the information you post is genuine, thought-provoking, and relevant, then commenting on high PR/ high traffic blogs that are relevant to your niche site is a good idea.

Also note that you can contact support and ask the site owner to do a joint-venture, or value-driven blog "guest-post" - including your website link below with your author name.

This is a great way to build an alliance, get audience attention, get a back-link, and provide solid information.

I really didn't think blog commenting was still a major marketing tool. What many said in these threads is true, commenting on quality blogs with quality comments will get you noticed by those that matter. Even when that trick was popular and so called work I was never a fan of it.

I think the issue is many who are starting off get their hands on out dated material and applying it in modern Online Marketing. But hey, mistakes are one of the best learning tools! :-0)

Great resources. I usually stick to guest blog posts, as they tend to bring in traffic, along with the backlinks, but this isn't bad either.

My tips for getting your comments to stick.

1. Address the poster of the article you're commenting on by name. It will be on their somewhere.

2. Mention the name of the blog / article title.

3. Compliment the owner for having a good blog and writing such a wonderful article.

4. Pick out a key point from the article that you focus on and make some points about that to show you've actually read it.

5. Say that you've written about something similar over on your blog and you'd love the AUTHOR (make it seem like you are addressing them and not anyone else) to come over and have a look and comment if they can.

Follow those tips and you've got a much better chance of your comments sticking plus if you get a comment near the top (use Google Alerts so you're quick) you can get a ton of traffic from popular blogs. It's a great way to get a quick boost in numbers.

I'd also add that asking a question about the post, or directed to one of the other comments, can greatly increase your approval rate. Just something that I've experienced myself.

I use blog commenting within my strategy to gain quality back links, but I find commenting more helpful for giving my opinion and expertise on a subject. It can be useful for traffic if you find the right article but I use commenting in the same means as I do participating in forums.

Spammy comments are terrible and only websites which have no worth to you will accost your spammy thousands of comments if that's how you operate - spend the time to find the right articles and blogs to consistently comment on and offer your thoughts, you'll soon see rewards from it

I can attest to generating traffic though blog commenting. Its also a good way to build relationships if your comments are useful and insightful

Instead of contributing to the post by leaving a comment,you could add to the discussion by posting on your blog, then all you do is link back to that particular post. What this will do is create a "trackback", its a lost art if you ask me.

I get lots of spam on my blogs. All of them done with scrapbox to get their links up

I have recently started using DropMyLink. I've not been hugely impressed with the sites it brought up in my searches, but I have another trick that sometimes brings in a nice gold mine.

Find a few sites that are ranking well in the niche you want to comment in. Go to backlinkwatch.com and get their list of backlinks, then visit the most promising looking URLs in the list - if they allow comments, and do not already have an overload of comments, you have a good chance of making a successful comment too.

I think there is definitely a lot of great advice here about blog commenting. But I would also like to add that if you have a blog, you should look for blogs with the 'CommentLuv' plugin.

1 - How you know it is a commentluv blog? - There will be a small 'CommentLuv' checkbox at the bottom of the box where you write your blog reply

2 - What does a commentluv post do? It pulls a snippet of your last blog post into your current blog comment. So for instance, I know Nicole Dean has commentluv. So if I went to her newest blog post and left a comment, a snippet of my last blog post would show up in my comment, including my blog post title. This allows her readers to instantly see what I have written about and if it interests them, then they will click on my blog and start reading.

I would recommend doing this in addition to the other strategies above because like I said, they are also really great strategies. But if you get are able to find even two or three commentluv blogs in your niche, and you are also blogging about things related to your niche, just imagine how much traffic that can bring you that you don't have to work for

Yeah, blog commenting still works. But you should add value to the post. If the post is about 10 ways to get traffic, add a 11th way in your comment. That way, you can ensure that your comment will get approved and the readers will actually have some interest in reading your comment. Guess one can't expect hordes of traffic from this method, but it's good for some extra traffic.

Blog commenting is definitely alive and kicking - just don't expect it to be quick or a godsend!

I actually recommend that you post on blogs with various PageRankings. Although a high PageRank is technically more link juice (there's more to it then that, of course) it doesn't look natural to Google for you to have nothing but high PR backlinks. Diversify your portfolio!
