What is your biggest benefit working full time online?

My current goal is to become a full time internet marketer. The main reason I want to accomplish this is 2 reasons..

1. Never having to worry about job security. I can rest easy knowing I will not have to worry if I will lose my job in the near future.

2. More Free time. I will not have a set 8-4 hour job - so I can take a vacation when I want, and spend more time with friends and family.

Now the money will be nice, but I value the free time I will have much more!

So, I wanted to ask people who are already in this position, what is the biggest benefit working online full time for you?

    MKCookins,

I think you said it. Money and free time. Great combo. You may have to continue to tweak your online business since it is a business and will not completely run itself. Be careful of becoming complacent in that you get too comfortable and don't give your business the attention it will need. Keep a balance. I know that I get dressed as I have for many years in a shirt and tie to be sure I don't become complacent. My choice, however, it keep me focused. Good luck,

Be careful what you wish for.

Internet marketing is often "over glamorized" like you spend all day sun baking on the beach while your personal assistant washes your Ferrari.

I can tell you right now, that this couldn't be further from the truth.

    What's that saying?

Internet marketers make money while they sleep - they work 20 hours to make money for the 4 hours they sleep.

I am already spending on avg 20 hours on the computer a day. I am enjoying every minute, learning and developing new skills right now.

So I can only imagine it getting better once I start to make more money - and if I get to the point where I am overwhelmed, I believe that is why we outsource certain aspects right

Too True... I work full time in IM which is about 80 hours a week at the moment. But when I want to take off at noon to play hookey, I can. When I want to take 3 weeks off, I can. When I want to work at home in my boxors, I can. It's Great!

John speaks the gospel truth. Working for yourself will only be successful if your boss is willing to kick your but 24*7.

Seriously though. It's a business and you need to be disciplined and professional.

Yeah dude those are both good reasons. Now you have to actually write out your goal as to how you expect to achieve those. What I've found that works really well is to write your goal in the present tense as if it's happening now. Write is out this way instead of writing it at some point in the future.

It will take a long time before you have this security. For a few years at least you are going to have to actively go looking for clients and work. It's back breaking work and when the money is NOT coming in I assure you there is no security. Just be realistic about the length of time it will take.

I still work an average of about 12 to 14 hours a day building my business. I also spend some of the weekend working.

It is not easy to build up a solid, self-sustaining business and it will take you time, but it is so worth it when you start getting it right

There are some drawbacks to it. No health insurance, or 401k matching programs. But, if you do it right, you will have the money for any health emergency and retirement. Always nice to think big.

I love having my own hours, working from my ipad anywhere in the world, sitting outside by the pool to do work. I always hated sitting in an office cubicle. It just felt wrong to me. I'm much happier since I followed my heart. At least I know I've tried following a dream. No regrets later in life looking back wondering "what if?"

The biggest benefit for me (in addition to the multiple sources of income : - ) is having creative control over my day. That does not mean that I don't do any work at all, rather I make sure that I do the things that I need to do to create a successful, growing online business, day in and day out. Then I feel good about spending the rest of my day doing other things that I enjoy : - )

This time last year if asked this question. I would have said the usual, cash, waking up after 11am and freedom to work wherever and whenever.
Things have changed a lot since then. A new arrival into my Family and now my outlook has changed.
Now my answer is simple. Being able to watch my Son grow up day by day. Even if it does contain 10 hours of crying and making baby bottles. Life is good.

the best thing i love working online is: spending every minute of my day with my small family, watching my kids play around , enjoying the presence of my lovely wife, being there is a bless and i'm grateful for it, money is the same as working offline, so it's not the case here.

I hate to burst your bubble, but the two benefits you are hoping most for are unrealistic.

There is absolutely no job security whatsoever in this business. The financial ups and downs are harsh for many. Most things become virtually obsolete (aka completely saturated) within 3-5 years and then you've got to reinvent what you are doing. If you fail to do so, you lose the roof over your head.

Your more free time assumption is going to end in a rude awakening. You will put in far more hours than a "real" job. I'm sorry, but the claims of making a living working an hour or two a day are just a part of bogus marketing materials. The reality is that 10-12 hour days are common. My record is working for 3 days straight to the hour.

My opinion on the biggest benefit is that you are in full control of your own destiny. I suppose that is true in any career, but we have the bonus of not having to fight co-workers for a promotion. If you work in an office answering phones and you want to be the office manager, you can't just take that job. Whereas in the online business equivalent, you can.

    1.flexibility regarding schedule/free time etc.
2.meeting lots of new business partners - then physically as well (not just online)
3.possibility to reinvest and harvest profits, increase wealth
4.you get to be your own boss, take your own decisions
5.no backstabbing from colleague - but then again, some of us work in groups...
6.possibility to make money while not working, even while sleeping
7.possibility to work almost from anywhere/it's not a location-stuck job
    8.constantly learning new things

Now check my post about the "downsides!" - does anyone ask about the negative aspects?

When I first started working from home, the benefit I was most excited about was sleeping in. And of course my body is conditioned to get up at 5am so I don't sleep past 6 even though I "can."

But I do love being at home, more relaxed, spending more time with my dogs, and getting the liberty to work in pajamas.
