Default Product launch and shared hosting - need advice

Hi,

I will soon have a mini product launch, and I have
everything hosted on my shared Hostgator account.

There are 2 big files, 250MB and 450 MB, that can be downloaded
by customers at the same time, plus some smaller files
under 1MB.

There is a limit of max 25 download requests at the same time
on my shared hosting. Hostgator support said that the bandwidth will not
be a problem, but if more than 25 people download at the same time
they will get 500 internal server error.

I may have 100-200 customers on the launch day, so I need to
solve the problem with downloads somehow.

Any suggesstions?

Can you host the files somewhere else? Amazon S3 seems like a good choice for something like this. If you dig into their API (or have a programmer who can make it work) you can even secure the files so they can only be downloaded from your site, that way nobody can share the download links.

Yup S3 is a quick n easy solution to host the large files.

And it's dirt cheap for the relatively small number of downloads you'll have.

Thought About Offline Consulting?
Fiona - $5,500 + $600/m 1st Week... Anthony - $7k + $594/m... Liz - $12k 1st Month...
Rob - $7k + $800/ 1st Month... Scott - $45,000 in 3m... 20/yo Jock 6-Figure Client 2nd Month
Don't you deserve the same unfair advantage?

I signed for Amazon S3.
It seems that I must do some programming
and I am not a programmer.
Help.

Kyle,

I just found your contribution about using S3 in the War room.
Let's see if it can help .

Hi you must definitely use Amazon S3 to host your huge files. If you can not to programming you can hire someone to do programming for you just see the link below.

The On Demand Global Workforce - oDesk

Yes you can try that site to hire someone.

Cheers,

I wouldn't worry about that code, it's only for secure downloads (ie a membership site) and as I hinted in that thread, there are now easier ways to do things.

Check out eZs3.com - Making Media Easy by Unleashing the Power of Amazon S3 Hosting (aff) -- it's dirt cheap, used by some of the biggest names in IM, and will have you up and running in no time.

If you're using Firefox, try this. It's free.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3247

No programming required, unless you want to secure your files on S3 (then you'll need a programmer, but it shouldn't cost you too much, looks pretty simple according to the API docs).

Yeah... right. That is one way of stopping using server resources. If they stop the excecution of site processes in first place, why giving unlimited bandwidth? Just to get the people sign up for hosting?

If S3 is too complicated then either get a vps hosting plan like these or use a file hosting service like FileKicker who charge per gb.

I'd also recommend eZs3.com - Making Media Easy by Unleashing the Power of Amazon S3 Hosting (no aff), you don't need coding and can restrict videos and downloads to only come from a domain you specify.

Makes using the Amazon S3 service a dream (it's a headache otherwise).
